Pico Ruivo - Visitors will embark on an incredible journey to explore Pico Ruivo, the second tallest mountain in Portugal, via a renowned trail that has been in use for over 200 years.
Participants will begin their hike on trail PR1.2 from the Achada do Teixeira parking area to Pico Ruivo. This adventure will take approximately 4 hours, allowing ample time to ascend to Portugal’s second highest peak and return.
The entire trek covers a distance of 5 km (approximately 2.5 km ascending and 2.5 km descending).
The elevation gain is around 250 meters.
This is a self-guided hike, so participants will be provided with a map, a detailed hike explanation, and a schedule for pick-up.
At the trail’s end, guests will find the Mountain Spot Cafe, where they can enjoy drinks and meals.
Restroom facilities are available for both patrons and non-patrons of the restaurant, with a fee of 0.5 cents.

Great experience, even as a solo traveller - I'm very happy with this experience. Nuno was a very kind driver and clearly explained everything we needed to know before going on the trail. As a solo traveller, this made me feel confident before beginning my adventure. To anybody on the fence, doing this at sunrise is 100% worth it, and definitely one of the most beautiful sights I've ever seen.
