A Morning of Discovery

The sun had barely begun its ascent when my husband and I found ourselves at the Areyksat Ferry Dock, ready to embark on a birdwatching adventure that promised to be as enlightening as it was picturesque. As we crossed the river, the cityscape of Phnom Penh slowly faded into the background, replaced by the serene beauty of the Mekong River’s wetlands.

Our guide, Mon, was a fountain of knowledge, eager to share the secrets of the avian world with us. As we ventured into the lotus fields, the landscape unfolded like a scene from a painting. The vibrant greens of the rice paddies contrasted beautifully with the delicate pinks of the lotus flowers, creating a tapestry of colors that was simply breathtaking. It reminded me of the open fields of the Midwest, where the horizon stretches endlessly, and the sky seems to go on forever.
