Valley of the Kings - Luxor Highlights……..
Embark on a full-day tour to explore the ancient capital of Egypt: Luxor, once known as Thebes. The city is a true open-air museum, with temples and ancient monuments scattered along both banks of the Nile River. Marvel at the Temple of Hatshepsut, Valley of the Kings, Colossi of Memnon, and Karnak Temple, all of which are sure to leave a lasting impression.
An Egyptologist guide will meet you in Luxor to begin your journey on the West Bank, the first stop of your day.
Start by exploring the Valley of the Kings, a symbol of the pharaohs’ grandeur. This valley was selected by the pharaohs as their royal necropolis after the treasures of the Pyramids in Lower Egypt were looted. The site features 63 tombs carved into the mountain rock, with the most renowned being that of the young King Tutankhamun.
Venture inside a royal tomb to admire the colorful scenes on the walls, offering insights into the beliefs and funerary practices of Ancient Egypt. It becomes clear that preparing for death was a pharaoh’s primary goal, making the tomb each king’s greatest life achievement. The royal tombs continue to stand as a testament to the pharaohs’ prestige and greatness. - Temple of Hatshepsut at Deir el Bahari - Continue your excursion with a visit to the Memorial Temple of Hatshepsut. Upon arrival, the impressive cliff will captivate your gaze. However, the true wonder lies at the base of this natural masterpiece: the Hatshepsut Temple. The external architecture harmonizes perfectly with the refined cliff, giving the impression that the building was sculpted from the rock. Inside the temple, examine the walls depicting the story of the female pharaoh who strengthened and enriched Egypt during her reign. Notice that many figures have damaged faces; these are representations of Hatshepsut that Thutmose III sought to erase. After her death, Thutmose III became king and avenged his stepmother, who had usurped his power. He attempted to erase Hatshepsut’s name from history by defacing her statues, destroying her cartouches, or removing them.

Colossi of Memnon - The final site on the West Bank is the Colossi of Memnon. These massive statues stand proudly, gazing toward the Nile, and served as guardians of Amenhotep’s memorial temple. This complex was the largest and most magnificent in Egypt, where Amenhotep was worshipped as a god. After an earthquake in 27 BC, one of the colossi was believed to sing at sunrise, but this sound ceased after renovations. Several earthquakes and floods have since claimed this remarkable temple. Today, the area is a vast archaeological research site, still watched over by the two great colossi.
Enjoy lunch at a delightful local restaurant. -
Temple of Karnak - Continue your day with a visit to the two magnificent temples on the East Bank of ancient Thebes. Enter Karnak Temple, the largest ancient temple dedicated to the Theban triad Amun, Mut, and their son Khonsu. Karnak Temple was connected to Luxor Temple by an avenue of sphinxes used during the Opet Festival, where statues of the Theban triad were carried in procession from Karnak Temple to Luxor Temple, allowing Amun-Ra (the solar form of god Amun) to meet Amun-Min (the form of Amun in Luxor Temple). The ancient complex consists of three precincts, with only the Amun-Ra precinct open to the public. Wander through the papyrus field of the hypostyle hall, where 134 papyrus-shaped columns are sure to impress. The walls will captivate you with their colorful engravings and hieroglyphs. At the back of the Amun-Ra precinct lies a charming sacred lake of natural spring water, used by priests for purification before entering the temple. The entire complex was constructed and developed over more than 2000 years, with around thirty pharaohs contributing to its construction, making it unique in size, elaboration, and diversity of styles.
After this incredible day, you will be escorted back to your hotel.
