• Colossi of Memnon - The Colossi of Memnon are two massive stone statues of Pharaoh Amenhotep III, located on the west bank of the Nile River near Luxor, Egypt. Each statue stands about 18 meters (60 feet) tall and originally served as sentinels at the entrance of the pharaoh’s now-destroyed mortuary temple. Historically, one of the statues was known to emit a “singing” sound at dawn, likely due to temperature changes and moisture in the stone. The Greeks linked this mysterious sound to the mythical hero Memnon, interpreting it as a divine message, which inspired the statues’ name. Today, the Colossi are iconic representations of ancient Egypt, attracting visitors and historians globally.
