• Khor Virap - The Khor Virap monastery is situated about an hour’s drive from the capital, Yerevan, and provides a stunning view of Armenia’s iconic symbol – the magnificent Ararat. “Khor Virap” means “deep dungeon,” and it was constructed on the site of the former royal prison, located at the historical site of Artashat. This very prison held Gregory the Illuminator, the first Armenian Catholicos, for 13 years. It is no wonder that this location is one of the most sacred places for Armenians worldwide. Additionally, it is the closest point to Mount Ararat from Armenia, often becoming the top reason to visit the country!
• T’rchuneri (Bird) Cave - The tour will lead you to the Bird’s Cave. In 2008, archaeologists uncovered some of the world’s oldest artifacts, including a leather shoe and a winery. The site, overlooking the Arpa River near the town of Areni, is believed to date primarily to the Early Bronze Age (around 5,000-6,000 years ago). It also contains evidence of intricate burial rituals and agricultural practices.
• Noravank Monastery - Besides Khor Virap, another must-see location is Noravank. It is one of the treasures of medieval Armenian architecture, nestled high among the stunning brick-red cliffs at the end of the Gnishik Canyon. Here, you will find the only depiction of God the Father in Armenia, which is as remarkable as the face of Jesus Christ that appeared on the dome of the Church’s narthex. Built by the Orbelian noblemen, it stands out among our churches as the sepulcher of this noble family, making it unique since it was strictly forbidden to bury people inside a church since the 5th century.
• Wings of Tatev - The longest cableway in the world (approximately 6 km), which was recorded in the Guinness Book of Records in 2010. During your ride, you will enjoy a breathtaking view over one of the most beautiful spots in Armenia (if not in the world).
• Tatev Monastery - A must-visit location in Armenia is Tatev Monastery, which was once the educational and spiritual center of Armenia. It is built on a high plateau in the Vorotan River gorge and is surrounded by stunning mountains and dense forests.
