This prison is famously known for holding Gregory the Illuminator, the first Armenian Catholicos, for 13 years. It is no wonder that this site is one of the most revered places for Armenians worldwide. Additionally, it is the closest point to Mount Ararat from Armenia, often making it the top reason to visit the country!
