- Khor Virap - Khor Virap is renowned as Armenia’s most significant pilgrimage site, closely linked to the adoption of Christianity. Christianity became the state religion in Armenia in 301, thanks to the efforts of Saint Gregory The Illuminator. Before converting King Trdat III to Christianity, Saint Gregory was imprisoned in a dungeon, over which the Khor Virap monastery church was constructed in the 17th century. Visitors to the monastery can enjoy breathtaking views of the Biblical Mount Ararat.
- Noravank Monastery - Navigating a narrow road flanked by rocky cliffs with numerous caves, one encounters a harmonious blend of architecture and nature. The monastery, adorned with exquisite architectural designs and lavish decorations, stands as a prime example of 13th-century Armenian architecture. Noravank comprises the churches of St. Karapet, St. Gregory The Illuminator, and the two-story St. Astvatsatsin (Holy Mother of God) church, noted for its exceptional construction and sculptural artistry.
- Hin Areni Winery - The Vayots Dzor region, particularly the village of Areni, has been the heart of Armenian winemaking for thousands of years. The “Hin Areni” wine factory introduces this region to the world, showcasing historic and native Armenian grape varieties. At the winery, traditional winemaking practices are seamlessly integrated with cutting-edge modern technology. The “Hin Areni” wine factory can process over 250 tonnes of grapes.
- T’rchuneri (Bird) Cave - Located 12 km from Yeghegnadzor on the left bank of the Areni River, the cave comprises three halls and covers an area of approximately 500 m², much of which remains unexplored. Studies have uncovered metal knives, fruit seeds, grain remnants, rope, dishes, clothing, and dried grapes and plums, dating back to 4200-3500 BC. The world’s oldest leather shoe, over 5500 years old, was discovered here. Additionally, the area yielded the world’s oldest women’s skirt (3900 BC) and the first known winery, dating to the 4th millennium BC. Although no one lived in the cave, wine consumption held ritual significance for the people.
