- Khlong Lat Mayom Floating Market - Khlong Lat Mayom is one of three floating markets near Bangkok, situated less than twenty kilometers from the city and reachable by taxi from Wongwian Yai (the final BTS station on the Silom Line). Unlike the large touristy Damnoen Saduak or the bustling Amphawa, Khlong Lat Mayom offers the genuine charm and authenticity of a local market, where visitors may find themselves among the few foreigners.
- Taling Chan Floating Market - Positioned just outside Bangkok on the road to Khlong Bangkok Noi, Taling Chan resembles a typical fresh food market bustling with produce vendors from nearby farms. However, the unique feature is at the canal, where several floating docks act as informal dining areas, with boats moored to the docks serving as kitchens.

Floating markets are beloved by both Thai people and tourists alike. The popularity is evident as locals gather in large numbers on weekends! The culture of local markets is deeply ingrained in Thai daily life, and dining out is a regular occurrence, unlike in Western cultures where it is considered a special event.
Dining is always the highlight of a floating market visit. Sitting on a small wooden stool, no higher than 10 cm, and ordering a dish prepared on a tiny wooden boat anchored right next to your table is an exciting and exotic experience!
Don’t hesitate to try some unfamiliar dishes. If unsure, simply point to your neighbor’s plate: noodle soups, Pad Thai, Kanom Jeen (cold rice vermicelli), or Hoi Tod (oyster omelet) are available for 20 to 30 baht per plate.

Lovely way to experience the local markets - Great way to experience the local markets with a guide to all the things you’re seeing. Penpath was a patient and knowledgeable guide. There was even a lovely boat ride at the first market!
