• Fort Charlotte - Situated in Lucea, Hanover, Fort Charlotte was constructed in the mid-18th century by the British to protect the island’s north-northwesterly region. Built during King George III’s reign, it was named after his wife, Charlotte. The fort included a barrack designed to accommodate 50 soldiers.

During the Napoleonic Wars, concerns arose about the fort’s ability to defend the harbor, leading to the installation of three 24-pounder cannons on traversing carriages on the seaward side in 1807.

The fort is constructed from rectangular cut stone and features several openings facing the sea. Inside, remnants of the circular gun base remain, allowing for firing in all directions. The Artillery Store, made of cut stone with buttresses and a gable-ended roof, still stands. Part of the fort is now integrated into Rusea’s High School.
