A Stroll Through Lucca’s Timeless Charm
As the sun rises over the ancient city of Lucca on May 10th, the day begins with a gentle embrace of cool temperatures and a sky painted with soft, overcast hues. This is the perfect setting for a leisurely exploration of Lucca’s historic streets, where every corner tells a story of its rich past. The Renaissance-era walls that encircle the city invite you to walk along their storied paths, offering panoramic views of the Tuscan landscape. As you wander through the cobblestone streets, the aroma of freshly brewed espresso wafts from quaint Italian cafés, inviting you to pause and savor a moment of indulgence.
The morning’s cloud cover provides a gentle shield from the sun, making it an ideal time to visit the Piazza dei Miracoli in nearby Pisa. Here, the iconic Leaning Tower stands as a testament to architectural wonder, and the surrounding square, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, offers a glimpse into the grandeur of Italy’s artistic heritage. As the day progresses, the clouds begin to part, revealing glimpses of the Tuscan sun, and the chance of rain invites you to seek shelter in one of Lucca’s charming trattorias, where the flavors of Tuscany come alive in every bite.
Indulge in the Flavors of Tuscany
As the afternoon unfolds, the rain subsides, and the sun casts a warm glow over the Tuscan countryside, setting the stage for a culinary adventure like no other. On May 11th, the weather promises clear skies and pleasant temperatures, perfect for embarking on The Grand Wine Tour through the heart of Tuscany. This exclusive experience, led by a professional sommelier, offers a journey into the world of Chianti and SuperTuscan wines, where each sip tells a story of the land and its people.
The tour begins with a visit to the renowned Chianti Road, where rolling vineyards stretch as far as the eye can see. Here, you’ll have the opportunity to taste a variety of wines, each one a testament to the region’s rich viticultural heritage. A light lunch at a Tuscan winery provides a moment of respite, where the flavors of local meats, cheeses, and freshly baked bread come together in a symphony of taste. As you savor each bite, the sommelier shares insights into the art of winemaking, enhancing your appreciation for the craft.
“It’s Better to Go Private! - Massimo was the guide for our newlywed son and his wife back in November 2021. They loved him for his passion for his country and for wine and for his knowledge of the area so we requested him for our tour. Our private tour was amazing. Massimo picked us up and dropped us off at our hotel. We highly recommend going private because you can customize and spend as much time as you want at a place. Tuscany is dreamlike. Along the way at our request he stopped at the Florence American Cemetery and Memorial. Very emotional. Then off to San Gimignano - a town like no other. The best gelato in Italy is there - the Gelateria Dondoli. Then on to our first winery - Tenuto Torciano - and our “light lunch” which actually was a platter of meats, cheeses and bread; then ribolitto, or Tuscan bread soup; then a hunk of lasagna. We needed a nap after all that. Then was the tastings. Let’s just say their sample pours are “robust” lol. Then on to our second winery - Fattoria DiPancole - which we were delighted to learn is also a B&B at only 130 euro a night even in season. This place is at the top of a hill and they even have an in-ground pool overlooking the countryside. Gorgeous. More healthy pours, more food, more laughing - even their dog greeted us - adorable! We bought wine to ship home and it arrived in no time. Massimo was proud of his Italy, was very knowledgeable about wine and he follows American basketball! What a guy. What a day! Our deepest thanks to Massimo and to Bella Italia Tours for a truly memorable experience.” - Reviewed at 2023-04-24
