• San Michele in Foro - From Piazzale Verdi, proceed along Via San Paolino, which aligns with the ancient Roman road (Decumanus Maximus), passing the Renaissance church dedicated to the town’s Patron Saint, San Paolino. At the street’s end, discover Piazza San Michele, the site of the ancient Roman forum. Take a moment to capture the stunning facade of the 12th-century church of the same name. Along the route, encounter Lucca’s renowned figure, Giacomo Puccini, and view the exterior of his birthplace. His operas continue to captivate audiences worldwide!
• Basilica of San Frediano - Continue to Via Fillungo, the town’s main and bustling shopping street, where traditional shops and medieval tower houses coexist. The tour also includes the two tallest civic towers: Torre delle Ore (the clock tower) and the unique Torre Guinigi, topped with seven holm oak trees.

Expect more delights, such as the breathtaking Byzantine-style mosaic on the facade of one of Lucca’s cherished churches: San Frediano.

• Piazza Anfiteatro - Just a short distance from San Frediano church lies one of Lucca’s most picturesque squares, Piazza Anfiteatro. The piazza’s elliptical shape results from buildings constructed over the ancient Roman amphitheater’s foundations.
• Lucca’s Duomo (Cattedrale di San Martino) - A brief walk through more medieval streets leads to the Cathedral of San Martino, featuring its distinctive and impressive Pisa-Lucca Romanesque facade. This marks the tour’s conclusion.

However, if energy permits, the guide will gladly extend the tour inside the Cathedral. There is a €3.00 entrance fee. Inside, visitors can admire the Volto Santo (the Holy Face), a revered wooden crucifix, the symbol of Lucca, an extraordinary Last Supper by Tintoretto, and in the sacristy, the exquisite marble sarcophagus of Ilaria del Carretto, a masterpiece from the early 15th century sculpted by Jacopo della Quercia of Siena.
