- Pak Ou Caves - Primarily a religious site, the Pak Ou Buddha Caves are located within a towering rock face that looms over the sacred site like tobacco-stained teeth. Accessed by a bright white-washed, zigzagging staircase, the boats dock at the base, allowing travelers and tourists to climb into the upper and lower caves for exploration.
Once inside, visitors are greeted by thousands of Buddha statues. Varying in size, quality, and material, the common factor uniting these figures is their minor imperfections. Explore long enough, and one can identify each; some are missing hands or have chipped faces, while others lean to the side or have been replaced by newer versions less worn from years of devotion.

Kuang Si Falls - After lunch, the journey continues to Kuang Si Waterfall. The vibrant blue waters cascading down the falls travel through a series of pools before rejoining the flow of the jungle river. Over time, the falls have carved deep lines into the rock, creating a beautiful travertine pattern. The pools are smaller near the top of the falls but tend to widen closer to the base, eventually becoming large enough to swim in, should the tropical heat inspire someone to take a dip, as it often does. Locals (who charge a small fee to visitors) have constructed a wooden platform from which guests can view the rushing waters or even jump off in certain spots.

Kuang Si Falls - Reaching the Kuang Si Falls can be somewhat challenging as they are quite off the beaten path and require an enthusiastic driver or rental. However, the ubiquitous tuk-tuk drivers in the nearby town of Luang Prabang are generally willing to take anyone interested in visiting the falls for a nominal fee. It’s well worth negotiating a ride to the falls, not just to escape the heat by swimming in the pools, but also to soak in some natural beauty found in few other places in the world.
