A deep dive into Laos culture and gastronomy - Me and my fiancee went on the tour with our guide Aping. We had an immediate connection with her and knew it was gonna be a great evening from the start. Aping has a great command of English, she is kind, caring and very professional. She took us to food markets where locals usually eat and allowed us to enjoy a genuine Laos gastronomical experience, while also providing valuable insight about the various buildings or monuments encountered along the way. Her sweet personality added tremendous value to an otherwise great tour. We highly recommend Aping for this tour and once again thank her for a beautiful evening and wish her all the best.

Super Tuk Tuk Tour - Our guide, Tony, was super. Took us through the various shopping and food areas of the night market. Tasted many good and interesting local foods. Then we settled down for delicious Laos hot-pot cooked over charcoal. Tony was very interesting and open to discussing Laos culture and traditions.

Wonderful Guide, wonderful tour - Aping is a wonderful guide. She took us to restaurant out side the main tourist area for a Hot Pot dinner with a view over the Mekong where we could watch the sunset cruise boats go by. Then we went to a local Laotian night markets to try several local foods. And finally back to the main night market in Luang Prabang for a smoothie and coconut pancakes (a must try). Along the way, Aping told us interesting stories about Laos and the Luang Prabang area.

Bring your appetite! - Bring your appetite! This tour exceeded our expectations (and our ability to eat it all) in terms of food. Our host was really great and gave us a lot of background about Laos food and was happy to talk about Laos in general so we learned a lot. She also made sure we had the opportunity to try a huge amount of different foods and it was always our choice as to what we ate…there were several stops and each of them had very generous portions, far more than we could eat! Luckily we were able to share some of it with others that looked interested in our tour as we hate to see anything go to waste.

If the visit was interesting, it was by far not like the one described in the announcement, ..... - !!! It's not going exactly as described in the ad! .....visit the local family and eat with them at night! NO .....only the locals go and are really off the beaten track! NO ....You will not see other tourists, these are family restaurants that you can not find on your own! FALSE ... you will discover the families who have been making their specialties for generations, ....NOT REALLY .....The tour will end in a local guest house close to the city! FALSE

An interesting... - An interesting introduction to Laotian food. We visited street traders and discovered foods that the locals eat and then enjoyed a hot pot cooked at our table using fresh ingredients we had bought during the tuk-tuk Tour. Overall a fun evening.

Unexpected but good none the less - We had an excellent time enjoying Lao BBQ with Tony and Mong. The experience wasn’t quite what we expected- less of a tour and more so a dinner with locals. We did stop at the night market and had some tea and were given mango sticky rice to go. We were given a LOT of BBQ so definitely didn’t leave hungry, but it wasn’t explained that we wouldn’t be going to other stops to sample other dishes.

Nothing like the description--disappointing. - Guide Tony was wonderful (though sometimes hard to understand), but this was disappointing overall. The description said: "Zip through the streets and alleys of the Old Quarter as you visit local, family-run restaurants you won’t find on your own... Immersive way to experience Laotian cuisine and culture. Learn about food traditions and specialties from local families. Enjoy a more intimate experience with a small group... We only try the best local food in the city at places where only locals go that are truly off the beaten path. You won't see any other tourists, these are family-run restaurants that you can't find on your own. " There was no group, it was only me, which was awkward. We went to no restaurants and met no families all--just grabbed some food from street vendors at the night market--which I definitely could have found on my own! And I saw nothing but tourists everywhere. I definitely did not learn about any "food traditions and specialties"--or anything else. My two hour visit to the night market and eating some street food did not any way resemble the description of this tour. A pleasant enough diversion, but nothing that I expected. Disappointing.
