A Culinary Adventure Begins

As a professional surfer, my life is often dictated by the rhythm of the ocean, chasing the perfect wave across Central America. But every now and then, I find myself drawn to experiences that take me away from the surfboard and into the heart of local culture. This time, it was a Mexican cooking class in Los Cabos that caught my attention. My wife and I, both adventurers at heart, decided to dive into the world of authentic Mexican cuisine with Cookin’ Cabo.

The day began at Mercabo, a family-owned spot in downtown Cabo San Lucas. The directions were clear, and the check-in process was seamless, setting the tone for what was to come. Our guide, Chef Issi, greeted us with a warm smile and an infectious enthusiasm for cooking. His knowledge of Mexican cuisine was evident from the start, and we were eager to learn from him.

From Market to Table

Our culinary journey started with a tour of local markets, where we picked up the freshest ingredients for our cooking adventure. Each stop was a sensory delight, with vibrant colors, enticing aromas, and the lively chatter of locals going about their day. Chef Issi shared insights into the food culture and history of the region, making each stop more than just a shopping trip.

With our baskets full of fresh produce, we headed to Chef Issi’s family home. The house was charming, and the kitchen was a dream come true for any cooking enthusiast. We donned our aprons and got to work, crafting a variety of traditional Mexican dishes from scratch. From making a refreshing margarita to mastering the art of mole, guacamole, and homemade tortillas, each step was a hands-on experience that brought us closer to the heart of Mexican cuisine.
