Vince and Bob were friendly and knowledgeable. It was a great trip.
The cruise was wonderful, Vince and Captain Bob were so knowledgeable and personable my husband and I really enjoyed the trip. We saw so many birds and had many photo opportunities .Thanks for a great 3 hour tour.. Laurie and Bob
We had both a Naturalist and Captain who were both very knowledgeable and familiar with the local area and it's history. They worked together seamlessly to provide a great experience. They interleaved observations and drawing attention to various sightings with background information about the local species and habitats, keeping up a constant conversation without overdoing it. Anyone with a question got an answer and, more than that, a wider discussion of topics that might be related. There were many very experienced birders on our trip, about 20 of us in all, and the two of us were probably the least experienced. But we spent three happy hours on the water and were not tired or overwhelmed. It was great way to get very close to the birds, to be with very knowledgeable and interested people, and to learn. Try it. If you've never done something like this before, know that it is much cooler on the water than on land; dress in layers.
The boat was great for all experience levels. When they spotted an interesting bird, they took their time so that everyone could have a look and get photos. We learned a few things about shorebirds (novice in this area) and had a few lifers - the yellow-crested nighthawk, whimbrel and willet. They knew where all the good spots were. Can't wait to go back!
I always enjoy this trip and I wanted to try it in March, just to see what, if anything, would be out there. There were only three of us present (excluding two CMBO staff), but the owner didn't cancel. He was as enthusiastic about going out as we were! Thanks to him, we enjoyed many Buffleheads, Atlantic Brant, Common Loon, Red Breasted Merganser, Horned and Eared Grebe, Greater Scaup, Great Horned Owl, Laughing Gulls and closeup looks at a gathering of Boat Tailed Grackles, mostly females, on one of the grassy islands. A very good day, indeed.
