Hai Van Pass - Hai Van Pass is a short but scenic route winding around a mountainside above the East Sea, on the central coast. Phong Nha-Kẻ Bàng National Park, hosting the world’s largest cave, is a sprawling area comprising 300 unique grottoes and caves. Deemed the world’s best cave by the British Caving Association, Phong Nha Cave holds four significant records: the lengthiest underground river, the tallest and longest cave, the widest and most visually appealing fine sandy beaches inside caves, and the most remarkable stalagmites and stalactites. In a 2009 survey by British cave explorers, 20 new caves stretching 56 km were identified, which included the world’s largest cave, Thien Duong. UNESCO’s evaluation states, ‘Phong Nha-Kẻ Bàng National Park’s karst formation has developed since the Palaeozoic era (around 400 million years ago), making it the oldest major karst region in Asia’ and ‘Phong Nha provides abundant proof of the planet’s history. Its tremendous role in increasing our knowledge of the region’s geologic, geomorphologic and geo-chronological history can’t be overstated.’
