Kryas Livadeia Springs - Located on the western edge of the Kopaida valley, the river Erkyna flows through this area. The charming neighborhoods and historic houses, along with the stone bridges at the Krya springs, create a delightful natural setting with evergreen plane trees, natural waterfalls, and windmills. Visitors can explore the Byzantine Castle, the Oracle (an underground stone structure), the stone Theatre, and the Clock. Enjoy a quick meal and savor the town’s renowned traditional souvlaki, or explore the town and enjoy a café.
Monastery of Hosios Loukas - Hosios Loukas is a historic walled monastery near Distomo, in Boeotia, Greece. Established in the mid-10th century, it is a significant monument of Middle Byzantine architecture and art, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1990, alongside the monasteries of Nea Moni and Daphnion. The monastery is beautifully situated on the slopes of Mount Helicon and was founded in the early 10th century AD by the hermit, Venerable Luke of Steiris, whose relics remain there.
Delphi Archaeological Museum - The Archaeological Museum of Delphi is one of Greece’s most important museums, showcasing the history of the renowned Delphic sanctuary and the most famous oracle of the ancient Greek world. Its extensive collections primarily feature architectural sculptures, statues, and micro-artworks, offerings from the faithful to the sanctuary, reflecting its religious, political, and artistic significance throughout history, from the foundation of the Apollonian temple in the 8th century BC to its decline in late antiquity.
Temple of Apollo - The visible ruins of the Temple of Apollo date back to the fourth century BC and are of a peripteral Doric structure. It was constructed by Spintharus, Xenodoros, and Agathon on the remains of an earlier temple from the sixth century BC, which was built on the site of a seventh-century BC structure attributed in legend to the architects Trophonios and Agamedes.
The Tholos of Delphi - The tholos at the sanctuary of Athena Pronaea is a circular building constructed between 380 and 360 BC. It featured 20 Doric columns with an exterior diameter of 14.76 meters and 10 Corinthian columns inside. The Tholos is located about half a mile from the main ruins at Delphi. Three of the Doric columns have been restored, making it a popular spot for tourists to take photographs.
Ancient Theatre - The ancient theatre at Delphi is situated further up the hill from the Temple of Apollo, offering spectators a view of the entire sanctuary and the valley below. Originally built in the fourth century BC, it underwent several renovations, notably in 160/159 BC at the expense of King Eumenes II of Pergamon and in 67 AD during Emperor Nero’s visit.
Ancient Stadium - The Stadium of Delphi is located at the highest point of the Archaeological Site of Delphi. It overlooks the sanctuary of Apollo and offers a view of the Delphic landscape. Constructed in the second half of the 4th century BC or possibly after the Galatian attacks, it measures 178 meters in length and has undergone several refurbishments. The Stadium of Delphi is the best-preserved ancient stadium in Greece.
Arachova - Arachova is a picturesque mountainous village nestled at the foot of Mt. Parnassos in Viotia, Southern Greece. It is the most cosmopolitan winter destination in Greece, favored by ski enthusiasts, celebrities, and first-time visitors seeking relaxation in a dreamy mountainous setting with modern tourism facilities. Its modern ski resort, proximity to Athens, and breathtaking mountainous landscape are its main attractions. Besides mountain activities, Arachova is also known for its vibrant nightlife and as a favorite mountain resort for Athenians.
Delphi - At the foot of Parnassos, in the evocative natural landscape between two mysterious rocks, the Phaedriades, lies the pan-Hellenic sanctuary of Delphi, the most famous oracle of ancient Greece. Delphi was considered the navel of the earth, where, according to mythology, the two eagles sent by Zeus from the ends of the universe met to find the world’s center. For centuries, it was the spiritual and religious center and symbol of unity for ancient Hellenism. In 1987, Delphi was designated a UNESCO monument. Today, Delphi is a municipality in Greece and a modern town adjacent to the ancient site. The modern town was established after relocating buildings from the sacred precinct to allow for excavation. Visitors can explore the town and enjoy a meal.
Meteora
Meteora - Meteora is renowned for its natural beauty and monasteries perched on the edge, offering a breathtaking journey. It consists of a complex of massive dark sandstone rocks rising above Kalampaka, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The average altitude is 313 meters. The formation of its geological landscape has intrigued geologists, though it remains unclear. Remarkably, it is not mentioned in Greek mythology or by ancient Greek or foreign historians. This wild and inaccessible landscape provided a haven for Christian hermits who settled there, according to Byzantinologists of the eleventh century.
Great Meteoron Monastery - The Monastery of Great Meteoron is an Eastern Orthodox monastery within the Meteora complex in Thessaly, central Greece. It is located atop a rock called Meteora or Platylithos, 415 meters above the Pineios valley floor. The monastery was founded by Athanasius the Meteorite in the 14th century.
Monastery of Varlaam - The Monastery of St. Varlaam is an Eastern Orthodox monastery within the Meteora complex in Thessaly, central Greece. It is perched atop a rocky precipice 373 meters above the valley floor. The Dragon Cave is located to the south, below the monastery. To the east, the ruins of Kelarakia Rock are visible today. The Cell of St. Paul the Apostle is likely identified with Kelarakia.
Kalambaka - Kalampaka is renowned throughout Greece and the world for the famous monasteries atop the rocks of Meteora, located on its northeastern side. Each year, millions of visitors from around the globe come to admire and honor them. Kalampaka is a city rich in history and significant monuments. Here, visitors can enjoy traditional cuisine and the stunning view of the monasteries.
