You won't regret this tour! - My husband and I went on a private tour and our host was Joao. He was very personable and we enjoyed the experience very much! We never felt rushed and he explained everything very well. He gave us a lot of information but also gave us great conversation not even related to the tour during the car ride. I had injured my knee the night before and the pharmacies around us were closed at the time our ride started. Joao was so kind to find a pharmacy on the way to our first stop so that I could buy a knee sleeve/brace. It made a world of difference! The tour itself was exactly as described and we had a lot of fun taking pictures and learning about the history. We highly recommend this tour!!

Fabulous tour and guide! - Loved this excursion! Rui was a fabulous guide. We spent the perfect amount of time in both cities. We had a lovely lunch in Monseraz and free time to explore the charming walled city and then enjoyed the multiple features of Evora including the ruins and the various churches (with a stop for yummy gelato along the way). Definitely 5 stars - highly recommend both the tour and Rui!

Lovely Tour - Gui was a great guide and provided a lot of information on the sites visited. Lunch recommendation in Monsaraz was delicious. Even though it was a long day (9 hours) Gui kept it interesting.

Day trip to Evora and Monsaraz - João was our tour guide and he absolutely killed it. Got picked up on time and as we drove out of the city toward Évora and Monsaraz, he told us about the history, agriculture, and significance of each place we stopped. He thought up more about cork, almonds, and castles, as well as traditions of old, showed us important significant landmarks, and gave us time to reflect. Also, thanks for providing us with great weather. Couldn’t ask for a better guide.

Great day in Evora and Monsaraz - Joao our guide was wonderful and made our trip a really excellent experience. He was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about sharing with us. We were traveling with two very small kids and everything went smoothly. Our older two kids had a great time and learned a lot. Would highly recommend!

Excellent trip with lots to see - It is a all day trip but the countryside is just amazing. If you are in medieval history, don’t miss this. The cherry on top was João - he is extremely knowledgeable and told us everything that made this trip complete. If you book this trip, ask for João and thank me later.

Highly recommended - We had a fabulous day with Rui at the medieval hilltop town of Monsaraz with its cobblestone roads, ancient fortification walls, watchtower and beautifully restored church. Rui explained everything to us - even the Portuguese bullfighting technique that takes place in the castle bullring once a year. There are great views across the lake to the Spanish border. Then on to Evora (Rui is an excellent driver) to explore the ancient Roman temple, nearby massive Gothic cathedral and the interesting but creepy Chapel of Bones. Rui selected a fabulous restaurant for us where we enjoyed a tasty lunch of traditional oxtail stew with local wines and finished with a decadent chocolate cake. All in all, we highly recommend this full day tour and if you’re lucky enough, you’ll get Rui as your guide - he’s informative, patient, friendly and very considerate.

Unforgettable Day Trip to Monsaraz and Évora with the Best Guide, Rui! - We had an incredible day with our guide, Rui. He arrived right on time—actually a few minutes early—and from the start, he was professional, friendly, and extremely knowledgeable. It was just me and my wife in a very comfortable van, and Rui’s driving and conversation made the trip smooth and enjoyable. Our first stop was the medieval hilltop village of Monsaraz, and it was absolutely breathtaking. The village sits high above the Alentejo plains, with 360-degree views that stretch all the way into Spain. The cobblestone streets, whitewashed homes, and quiet atmosphere made it feel like we’d stepped back in time. We were lucky to visit when it wasn’t crowded—just a local school group exploring the village. Inside the fortress, we could see where they hold the running of the bulls and the bullfights at the end of the festival. Standing on the castle walls, looking out over vineyards, olive groves, and cork trees, was the highlight of the day. After Monsaraz, Rui took us to Évora for lunch. He recommended a local restaurant that turned out to be fantastic. We tried the oxtail and the famous black pork cheeks. Rui explained how the black Iberian pigs eat acorns from cork trees, which gives the meat its rich, nutty flavor. It was one of the best meals we’ve had in Portugal. In Évora, we explored the Roman Temple, which is nearly 2,000 years old, and the Cathedral, where you can climb to the rooftop for incredible views of the city. We also visited the Chapel of Bones, which was fascinating, eerie, and deeply moving. Rui shared the stories and history behind each site, and his knowledge made the experience come alive. It is a long drive—about an hour and a half each way—but it’s a beautiful one, passing through vineyards, olive trees, almond trees, and cork oak forests. Getting out of Lisbon and seeing the Alentejo countryside was well worth the time. Overall, this was one of the best days of our entire trip. The private tour was comfortable, informative, and perfectly paced. Rui was an amazing guide, and we can’t recommend him highly enough. If you’re considering a day trip from Lisbon, this one should be at the top of your list.

Momsaraz is worth the two hours to get there. - Momsaraz is worth the two hours to get there. Our driver, Rui, picked up at our Airbnb which was great. He gave us a lot of interesting historical information which we like. We saw beautiful vineyards, olive groves, almond orchards and cork forests. We felt we had the place to ourselves. No one was there. The sun was shining. We climbed the castle walls and saw an amazing view. We had a fantastic lunch at Taverna Os Templarios. The view and the food were amazing! Then we drove to Évora which is a world heritage site. It is beautiful. However, it was raining and cold and some in our group were tired so we didn’t get to enjoy much. Probably if the weather had been nice it would have been a different story. Rui dropped us off at our Airbnb which was great!

Evora was nice, but... - Evora was nice, but Monsaraz has breathtaking views. It is a far way from Lisbon, just to keep in mind, views amazing just being so far and enjoying other small cities more that Evora is why the 4 stars. The tour was seamless, picked up and dropped off at our hotel was great. Drive kind and friendly.
