• Chiado - The vibrant core of the city. This must-visit neighborhood features a mix of historic shops and modern brands, renowned restaurants, and lively spots for music and entertainment.
• Lisbon Cathedral - Recognized as a National Monument, also called St. Mary Major’s Church. Constructed after the city’s reconquest from the Moors in 1147, it was built over an old mosque, mirroring the design of the Cathedral of Coimbra with its three naves, triforium, prominent transept, and tripartite headboard.
• Miradouro das Portas do Sol - From this viewpoint, you can see the Church of São Vicente de Fora and the entire Alfama neighborhood, which winds through narrow streets down to the Tagus River. This balcony-like space offers a stunning view of Lisbon’s eastern area and the Tagus River.
• Miradouro da Senhora do Monte - Once a hidden gem, now popular among tour guides and couples. It provides a panoramic view of Lisbon, watched over by a small statue of the Virgin after whom the viewpoint is named. Behind the statue is a small 18th-century chapel, usually closed. Legend says that pregnant women who sit in the stone chair inside would have an easier childbirth. As one of the city’s highest points, it offers views of several monuments, marked on a tile panel.
• Igreja de Sao Vicente de Fora - One of Lisbon’s most remarkable buildings, the São Vicente de Fora Church is a symbol of Philip I’s architectural influence after he ascended to the Portuguese throne.
• Panteao Nacional - Located in the historic Santa Clara area, the National Pantheon occupies the building initially meant for the church of Santa Engrácia, housing the tombs of notable figures in Portuguese history. Founded in the late 16th century and completely rebuilt in the late 1600s by architect João Antunes, it was never used for worship but features a grand nave and colorful marble decorations typical of Portuguese Baroque architecture. A key landmark offering views of the historic area and the Tagus River, it is a National Monument. Nearby, the traditional Flea Market is held weekly on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
