- Óbidos Village - Discover Óbidos, captured by Portugal’s first king, D. Afonso Henriques, on January 11th, 1148. Since then, Óbidos has remained a significant part of Portugal’s history. Visit the various attractions of this fortified village. Strolling through the village also offers the opportunity to sample Ginjinha and other local delicacies and crafts.
Note:
Each July (for an additional fee), Óbidos castle hosts a traditional ‘Medieval Market’. For two weeks, the castle and surrounding town recreate the medieval European atmosphere. Colorful banners and heraldic flags enhance the ambiance, along with hundreds of entertainers and vendors dressed as merchants, jugglers, jesters, wandering minstrels, soldiers, and more.
Visitors can shop at the traditional handcrafts fair or enjoy medieval shows, horse displays, and a costumed parade that winds through the streets. There are also exhibitions of jousting knights and armed combat.

Palácio Nacional de Mafra - Explore the Mafra Palace, a magnificent structure made possible by the influx of “Brazilian gold,” enabling King João V to construct one of the largest baroque palaces of the 18th century. Construction began on November 17, 1717, and the palace comprises four buildings in one: the palace, the convent, a basilica, and a library.
Walk through the longest corridor ever built in a palace (232 meters long). Constructed entirely of limestone and marble from the region (Pêro Pinheiro and Sintra), the building spans nearly four hectares (37,790 sqm), including 1,200 rooms and over 4,700 doors and windows.
The library is one of the most significant in Europe, housing an extensive collection of books (over 30,000 volumes) from the 15th to the 18th century. Flanked by two towers, the basilica is the centerpiece of the facade, designed by German architect Johann Friedrich Ludwig and commissioned by D. João V.
