The Journey Begins: From Lijiang to Feilai Temple

As the first light of dawn broke over Lijiang, I found myself embarking on a journey that promised to be as enlightening as it was breathtaking. The early departure from Lijiang to Feilai Temple was a prelude to the wonders that lay ahead. The drive itself was a tapestry of natural beauty, with the Napa Sea Observation Platform offering a panoramic view that seemed to stretch into infinity. The confluence of the Three Parallel Rivers at Moon Bay was a sight to behold, a surreal spectacle that spoke of nature’s grandeur.

Arriving at the Feilai Temple Snow Mountain Hotel, I was enveloped in a serene atmosphere that seemed to echo the tranquility of the surrounding landscape. The temple itself, shrouded in mystique and legend, was a reminder of the deep spiritual roots that run through this region. It was here that I began to feel the pull of the mountains, a call to explore the hidden gems of Yunnan’s wilderness.

Immersed in the Wilderness: Yubeng Village

The journey to Yubeng Village was an adventure in itself. From the quaint Xidang Village, where the air was filled with the scent of incense and local delicacies, we boarded an off-road vehicle that took us deeper into the mountains. The ride was a thrilling prelude to the hike that awaited us, a 5-hour trek along the Shenpu trail.

As I laced up my hiking boots and set off on the trail, I was struck by the lush forests and towering peaks that surrounded me. The path wound through a landscape that seemed untouched by time, a place where nature reigned supreme. The tranquility of the mountains was palpable, a soothing balm for the soul. As the sun began to set, casting a golden glow over the peaks, I returned to Shang Yubeng, my heart full of the day’s experiences.

The Icy Majesty of Ice Lake

The hike to Ice Lake was a challenge that promised great rewards. Standing at the threshold of the Shenbeng Plateau, I felt a sense of anticipation building within me. The 14-kilometer trek was a test of endurance, taking us through dense forests, over rocky terrain, and across suspension bridges.
