Trading Waves for Adventure: A Day at Rincon de la Vieja Volcano
When the waves are calm, I seek adventure elsewhere. This time, it was the Rincon de la Vieja Volcano in Costa Rica, where ziplining, horseback riding, and river tubing awaited. Join me as I trade my surfboard for a day of thrills and relaxation.
A Day of Thrills and Tranquility
The sun was just beginning to peek over the horizon as my wife and I set out for a day that promised to be filled with adventure and relaxation. We were in Liberia, Costa Rica, a place that has become a second home to us over the years. Our destination was the Rincon de la Vieja Volcano, where we had booked the Volcano Adventure Combo. As seasoned travelers and surfers, we were eager to trade our surfboards for a day of ziplining, horseback riding, and river tubing.
Our guides, Harry and Christian, picked us up from our hotel right on time. Their warm smiles and easygoing nature set the tone for the day. They took us to a quaint café for a quick breakfast, ensuring we were fueled and ready for the adventure ahead. Harry, with his infectious enthusiasm, briefed us on the day’s itinerary, making sure we were comfortable and prepared for each activity.
Riding Through Nature’s Playground
Our first adventure was a horseback ride through the lush forest surrounding the volcano. As we trotted along the trails, the morning sun filtered through the canopy, casting dappled shadows on the ground. The air was fresh and filled with the sounds of the forest waking up. It was a serene start to what promised to be an exhilarating day.
Next up was river tubing on the Rio Negro. The crystal-clear waters beckoned us as we climbed into our individual tubes. The river’s rapids provided just the right amount of thrill, bouncing us along its course. Laughter echoed off the canyon walls as we navigated the twists and turns, the cool water a refreshing contrast to the warm sun.
Soaring Above the Canopy
After drying off, it was time for the ziplining portion of our adventure. The course took us high above the forest floor, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. Each zipline was a new thrill, the wind rushing past as we soared from platform to platform. The highlight was a Tarzan swing that had us all whooping with delight.
Lunch was a welcome break, a chance to refuel and share stories with our fellow adventurers. The spread was impressive, catering to all dietary preferences, and the fresh juice was a perfect accompaniment to the meal.
Relaxation in the Heart of the Jungle
The final leg of our journey took us to the Rio Negro Hot Springs. Nestled in the tropical dry forest, the hot springs were a haven of tranquility. We indulged in a volcanic mud bath, letting the mineral-rich clay work its magic on our skin. As the mud dried, we rinsed off in the cool river water before sinking into the warm embrace of the hot springs.
As the day drew to a close, we reflected on the incredible experiences we had shared. Harry and Christian had gone above and beyond, even surprising my wife with a birthday cake, a gesture that added a personal touch to an already unforgettable day. As we made our way back to the hotel, the sun setting behind the volcano, we felt a deep sense of gratitude for the adventures that life continues to offer us. Pura Vida!
