Great Troll / waterfall tour - Great troll / waterfall tour. Driver was awesome on the very steep and winding road. She made it look and seem easy. Driver gave great commentary. And loved her little troll stories!

This day blew us away! - We hesitantly booked this tour when we couldn't figure out what we wanted to do at this port stop and we ended up being blown away! This was the most gorgeous drive with scenery that pictures cannot do justice to. There were a great number of stops to break up the drive and we saw a bunch of cool things. Would absolutely do it again.

End of September, road still open, restaurant facilities already closed - What a beautiful autumn colors, great to drive through this nature, waterfalls, ice on mountaintops, great road and enough place and moments to stop for photos, which can not capture all the beautiful things so Then the hairpin bends down, where you can see the waterfall at all heights, great At the end a nice campsite with trolls The route has 11 sharp hairpin bends that zigzag up against the mountain face. • 🏔️ Elevation: the road rises about 850 meters from the valley to the highest point (Stigrøra, 858 meters above sea level). • 🌊 Waterfall: along the way the Stigfossen clatters down, a waterfall of 320 meters high. You see him almost everywhere on the road. • 👷 Construction: the road was opened in 1936 by King Haakon VII after eight years of construction – largely by hand and dynamite. • ❄️ Seasonal route: Trollstigen is usually only open from the end of May to October and is closed in winter due to snow and avalanche risks. • 🛑 Vehicle limit: vehicles longer than 12.4 meters are not allowed on it – too dangerous in the corners. • 👀 Viewpoint: at the top is a spectacular platform, designed by architects of Snøhetta, overlooking the hairpin bends and the valley. • 🌌 Name: “Trollstigen” literally means “the steps of the trolls” – matching the mystic Mood of the Norwegian Mountains. The Trollstigen was built not only to connect people, but also to transport fruits from the Valldal Valley (known for strawberries, apples and other soft fruit) to markets and ports faster and easier. Before the road was in place, farmers and traders had to get their crops down by detours or tricky paths – time-consuming and risky. Construction costs were around 2 million Norwegian kronor in the 1930s. That sounds modest, but converted to today that is worth tens of millions of euros.

Scenery is breathtaking! - Tour operator kept us informed of time changes to the tour and meeting location. Our tour guide was lovely and she had lots of information regarding our drive. The were several stops for viewing Fjords and lovely scenery. The switchbacks were daunting and breathtaking. Our driver was super skilled rounding these curves (a bit of a nail biter). Plenty of time at the different stops.

Terrible - the excursions.no tour company cancelled the trollstrigen tour on 8 Oct 2025 at the last moment and did not provide the refund yet. Email received from them saying refund processed; however, not received yet. No response through email/WhatsApp at all. Terrible experience.

The bus was Filthy - The guide was very nice, but the bus was filthy. It was a sunny day and the windows were all streaked. You could Not see anything through them. The guide would say to look at something and we could Not see it. The tray at the seat was filthy also. I have pictures that I would post if I could. Of course stopping at Trollstigen was Amazing, but the trip to get there was terrible.

Bus was terrible - While the tour itself was very good, the bus that we were taken in had zero visibility for most of the right side windows (which were the most scenic views) and the side we were seated on. This bus should be put out to pasture. For the price we paid this was a huge disappointment.
