• Brosundet in Ålesund - Driving time: 10 minutes
  Molja lighthouse, located at the pier’s end at Ålesund’s entrance, dates back to 1937 and was automated in 1982. However, lighthouses have stood here since 1858. Today, the lighthouse serves as a hotel room with room service. Regardless of the weather, the sunsets here are mesmerizing. This area of Ålesund was once bustling with fishing boats seeking refuge or delivering their catch. The lighthouse guided them safely, as well as other passing vessels. A toilet facility is available here.

  Travel through the city, admiring the charming houses and crossing the renowned Hellebroen to the city’s other side. The picturesque Brosundet divides the city, leading to the lighthouse. On January 23, 1904, a catastrophic fire ravaged Ålesund, destroying 850 houses and leaving 10,000 people homeless within 16 hours. By 1907, much of the town center was rebuilt, inspired by national romanticism and the Art Nouveau style. The architecture, with its towers, spires, and vibrant ornaments, is renowned, making Ålesund a unique architectural gem in Norway and internationally.

  Ålesund’s beautiful church, built in 1909, replaced the original 1854 church that burned in the 1904 fire. The current church seats 800 and is constructed from stone sourced from areas around Kristiansund, north of Ålesund. Situated on Apøya hill, the church is visible and audible from much of the city.

• Alnes - Driving time: 20 minutes
  Visit the viewpoint at Alnes and admire the Alnes lighthouse, nestled among houses with towering mountains on one side and the vast sea on the other. The natural beauty is awe-inspiring. Close to the sea, hear the fresh sea breeze and watch waves crash over massive rocks. Alnes lighthouse now limits entry to 8 people at a time, only at specific times. Visitors can admire the lighthouse from outside but cannot enter.

• Alnes Lighthouse - Driving time: 5 minutes
  Drive along the high stone wall protecting houses from large waves. The narrow road reveals the landscape, offering fresh sea air. The lighthouse has guided boats and ships since 1853. Her Majesty the Queen of Norway inaugurated the new visitor center at Alnes Lighthouse on October 7, 2016. The center, with its discreet design, blends into the terrain. Artists Ørnulf Opdahl and Sidsel Colbjørnsen, local residents, donated an art collection for a permanent exhibition. The Queen has visited multiple times, observing the development and praising this beautiful, resilient place.

• Giske Church - Driving time: 10 minutes
  GISKE is known as Norway’s birthplace, home to one of its most influential families. The Giske family, powerful for centuries, included four brothers who were close to the Norwegian king. The Giske medieval church, built in 1130 as a family chapel, is nearly 900 years old and made entirely of marble, unique in Norway. The marble was sourced from Norway and Italy. Pilgrims carved small crosses on the church’s outer walls around 1300. The church is usually closed to the public.
