Leshan Giant Buddha (Da Fo) - The Leshan Giant Buddha is an impressive 71-meter (233 ft) tall stone statue, constructed between 713 and 803 during the Tang dynasty, representing Maitreya. It is intricately carved from a cliff of Cretaceous red bed sandstones at the meeting point of the Min River and Dadu River in southern Sichuan province, China, near Leshan city. The statue faces Mount Emei, with rivers flowing beneath its feet. It holds the title of the largest and tallest stone Buddha statue globally and is the tallest pre-modern statue worldwide. The Mount Emei Scenic Area, which includes the Leshan Giant Buddha Scenic Area, has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1996. Construction began in 713 AD, led by a Chinese monk named Hai Tong, who believed the Buddha would calm the turbulent waters affecting river vessels. When funding was at risk, he reportedly gouged out his own eyes to demonstrate his devotion and sincerity. After his passing, construction stalled due to lack of funds until about 70 years later when jiedushi Wei Gao sponsored the project, allowing Hai Tong’s disciples to complete it in 803. Your personal driver will pick you up from the hotel lobby at 8:00 AM, arriving at the Leshan Giant Buddha in approximately 2 hours. Upon arrival at the parking lot, you can choose to climb the mountain or take a boat. If unsure of your age, you may purchase your own tickets, as guests over 70 years old receive discounts or free entry. After the tour, board the car to visit Wenshu Temple.

Wenshu Yuan Monastery - Wenshu Monastery (Manjushri Monastery), situated at No. 66 Wenshu Yuan Street, Chengdu, Sichuan Province, is the best-preserved Buddhist temple in Chengdu. It serves as the headquarters for the Buddhist Association of Sichuan Province and Chengdu City. Originally built during the Tang Dynasty (618-907), it was initially known as Xinxiang Temple. In 1681, during Emperor Kangxi’s reign in the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), a distinguished Buddhist monk named Cidu arrived at the temple. He constructed a simple hut between two trees and lived an ascetic life there for several years. Legend states that when Cidu was cremated, the statue of Wensu (Bodhisattva Manjusri in Sanskrit) appeared in the flames for an extended period, leading people to believe Cidu was the reincarnation of Bodhisattva Manjusri. Consequently, Xinxiang Temple was renamed Wenshu Monastery. Cultural relics are a highlight of Wenshu Monastery. Since the Tang and Song dynasties, over 500 pieces of painting and calligraphy by famous figures have been preserved here. The Sutra-Preservation Pavilion houses many renowned handwriting exhibits, paintings, and artworks. These valuable pieces were created by celebrated Chinese painters and calligraphers, including Zhang Daqian, Zheng Banqiao, and Feng Zikai. Among the precious relics, a fragment of Xuan Zang’s skull, a notable monk from the Tang Dynasty, is the rarest. Another treasure is a delicate jade Buddha statue brought from Burma to China in 1922 by Xing Lin, a Buddhist monk who walked the entire distance. Additionally, the monastery contains around 300 Buddha statues made from various materials such as iron, bronze, stone, wood, and jade, some beautifully painted. After the visit, your personal driver will ensure a safe return to the hotel, concluding a perfect day.
