At 7:45 AM, your personal driver will pick you up from the hotel, holding a sign with your name, and drive you to the Leshan Giant Buddha, a journey of approximately 2.5 hours. You can choose to climb the mountain or take a boat, purchasing your own tickets. After the tour, you will return to the parking lot.
When the Giant Buddha was carved, a massive thirteen-story wooden structure (similar to the one at the Rongxian Giant Buddha) was constructed to protect it from rain and sunlight. This structure was destroyed by the Mongols during the wars at the end of the Yuan dynasty, leaving the stone statue exposed to the elements. The best way to view the Leshan Giant Buddha is by boat, allowing for a more comprehensive view of the Buddha. Climbing the mountain takes about 2 hours, while the boat ride takes approximately 40 minutes. The Leshan Giant Buddha is a 71-meter (233 ft) tall stone statue, constructed between 713 and 803, depicting Maitreya. It is carved from a cliff face of Cretaceous red bed sandstones at the confluence of the Min River and Dadu River in the southern part of Sichuan province, China, near the city of Leshan. The stone sculpture faces Mount Emei, with rivers flowing below its feet. It is the largest and tallest stone Buddha statue in the world and remains the tallest pre-modern statue globally.
- Jinli Pedestrian Street - The driver will take you back to Chengdu Jinli Ancient Street, a journey of about two and a half hours. You can explore Jinli Ancient Street at your leisure. Jinli is a street in Chengdu, Sichuan, China, approximately 550 meters long. It is part of the Temple of Marquis, with buildings styled in the Qing Dynasty architecture. The theme is Three Kingdoms Culture, reflecting traditional folk customs. The street features numerous bars, inns, snack stores, and souvenir shops. Renovated in 2004, Jinli was recognized in 2005 as one of the “National Top Ten City Commercial Pedestrian Streets.”
