Shey Monastery - Just a short distance from Leh, Shey Monastery and Palace are renowned for the three-story statue of Buddha Shakyamuni. Crafted from copper, this statue is unique in the region. The palace complex is dotted with numerous Buddhist chortens.
Thiksey Monastery - As the largest monastery in Central Ladakh, Thiksey is famous for its 49-foot tall statue of Maitreya Buddha in the lotus position, spanning two floors of the monastery. This statue was erected to commemorate the 14th Dalai Lama’s visit to Thiksey Monastery in 1970.
