Very worth seeing museum in Lübeck! - In the Museum Holstentor there are various themed rooms. The first room deals with European-wide foreign trade during the Hanseatic period, followed by a presentation of local trade within the Hanseatic city. The old Lübeck city model presents the prototype of a Hanseatic city built exclusively from bricks. Another room shows the importance of seafaring and various old ship models that contributed significantly to the economic success of the city. Another room deals with the armament of the Holsten Gate. The history of the Holstentor and its integration into a massive defence system as well as the development of this building from a landmark to a trademark is another topic of this tour. Using late medieval torture instruments such as a stretching bench, a firing iron, a judging chair and a Spanish cloak, historical legal instruments that were then available for the "awkward (= painful) interrogation" are presented in the last room. The staff was very nice and friendly as well as helpful. Credit card payment is also possible. There is also an entrance fee. I had free access to the museum on presentation of my severely disabled ID. However, the museum is not equipped for the disabled. There is no elevator in the round towers. There are many, narrow stairs to climb. Nevertheless, it is worth a visit to the museum.
