Created by Swiss artist Ugo Rondinone, it was commissioned and funded by the Art Production Fund and the Nevada Museum of Art. It stands as one of the largest land-based installations in the U.S. completed in the past forty years, attracting 325,000 visitors each year.

• Zabriskie Point - Zabriskie Point, part of the Amargosa Range, is situated east of Death Valley in Death Valley National Park, California, USA. It is renowned for its striking erosional landscape, composed of sediments from Furnace Creek Lake, which dried up 5 million years ago, long before Death Valley was formed.

Furnace Creek, previously known as Greenland Ranch, is a census-designated place (CDP) in Inyo County, California, USA. The population was 136 as of the 2020 census, up from 24 in 2010. • Devil’s Golf Course - The Devil’s Golf Course is a salt pan in Death Valley National Park, famous for its distinctive salt formations and rugged terrain. The name reflects the challenging landscape, suggesting that “only the devil could play golf” there.
• Badwater Basin - Badwater Basin, an endorheic basin in Death Valley National Park, Inyo County, California, is recognized as the lowest point in North America and the USA, at 282 ft (86 m) below sea level.

The site features a small spring-fed pool of “bad water” beside the road in a sink; the surrounding basin’s accumulated salts render it undrinkable, hence the name. Despite this, the pool supports life, including pickleweed, aquatic insects, and the Badwater snail.
