Lanzhou – Xiahe-Binglingsi
Bingling Temple - In the morning, visitors will drive to Liujiaxia Dam and take a boat to the Binglingsi Grottoes. “Bingling” is a transliteration of a Tibetan phrase meaning “Ten Thousand Buddhas.” The formal construction of Bingling Temple began in 420, during the first year of Jianhong’s reign in the Northern Wei Dynasty. Murals and decorations were added during the Northern Zhou, Sui, Tang, Yuan, and Ming Dynasties. Currently, 183 caves are well-preserved, featuring 900 square meters of frescoes and 694 Buddha statues, including 82 clay sculptures, all situated on a large cliff measuring 200 by 60 meters.
After exploring the Binglingsi Grottoes, visitors will transfer to Xiahe, renowned for the Labrang Lamasery of the Yellow Sect of Tibetan Buddhism.
Xiahe – Lanzhou - Labrang Monastery
Labrang Monastery (Labuleng Si) - In the morning, visitors will explore Labrang Monastery and can stroll around the entire temple and the Tibetan village. Labrang Lamasery was initially constructed under the guidance of Jiamuyang, the first generation of Living Buddha, in 1709, during the 48th year of Kangxi’s reign in the Qing Dynasty. With subsequent Living Buddhas continuing the work, it has become the largest center for Tibetan religious culture in Gansu, Qinghai, and Sichuan provinces. In the afternoon, visitors will drive back to Lanzhou.
Lanzhou - Zhangye - Giant Buddha Temple of Santai County
Zhangye - Jiayuguan - Jiayuguan Fortress
Jiayuguan Fortress - The Horse Hoof Temple Grottoes, featuring the legendary horse-hoof print preserved in the Horse-hoof Hall of the cave, is a treasured part of the temple. Visitors will enjoy lunch in a local ethnic Yugur people’s tent.

Great Wall at Jiayuguan Pass - Explore the renowned Jiayuguan Pass & Museum of the Great Wall, the western terminus of the Ming Dynasty’s Great Wall. Visitors will see the Overhanging Great Wall and Painting Bricks in the tomb of the Wei & Jin Dynasty. The painting bricks, inlaid on the four walls, boast beautiful colors and diverse content covering politics, economy, military, and culture, earning the title “Underground Art Gallery.” In the afternoon, transfer to Guazhou.
Guazhou – Suoyangchengzhen - Dunhuang
Suoyangchengzhen - Visit the Yulin Caves, which share origins in content, artistic style, and painting form with the Mogao Caves, earning the title of its sister site. After lunch, explore the ruins of Suoyangcheng, a significant Silk Road stop, listed by UNESCO in 2015. In the evening, enjoy a top dance drama in China, “The SILK ROAD.”
Dunhuang - Mogao Caves
Mogao Caves - Visitors will explore the Mogao Caves & Digital Film Center, one of China’s four most famous grottoes. The site includes 492 grottoes, 45,000 square meters of murals, 2,400 painted statues, and over 250 residential caves. After lunch, visit the White Horse Pagoda, Crescent Moon Lake, and the Singing-Sand Dunes, and enjoy a camel ride in the sand dunes.
Dunhuang – Dunhuang Museum - Xian
Dunhuang Museum - Explore the Jade Gate Pass & Great Wall of the Han Dynasty. Historically, the Han Dynasty constructed many walls to secure the frontier region and facilitate trade with the western region. Unlike other dynasties’ walls, which were built by layering stones or bricks, the Han Dynasty Great Wall was constructed using local sand and weed, layered one on top of another. Each layer measures 12 to 15 centimeters (4.7 to 5.9 inches) on average. The current remains of the wall range from 1.6 feet to over 6.6 feet tall.
After lunch, transfer to the airport for a flight to Shanghai or Beijing, via Xian.
