Our guides, who are fluent in English, are certified by the Indonesia Tourist Guides Association (ITGA-HPI Himpunan Pramuwisata Indonesia). They are passionate about sharing their expertise while ensuring the Gunung Leuser National Park remains clean and safe for both people and wildlife.
Our day tours and activities have a positive impact on the local community. By purchasing one of our trekking tours, 10% of the proceeds are donated to children in Bukit Lawang who cannot afford education and to single mothers facing financial difficulties. This support enables children to attend school and eventually secure employment to sustain themselves and their families.

Great ! - I spent two nights in the jungle and it was an absolutely amazing experience. Everything was perfectly organised, and during those two unforgettable days we met lot of orangutans and monkeys. The food was incredible — truly 10/10, I couldn’t have asked for more.
The same company also arranged the rest of my travels around North Sumatra (incl transport, volcano trek etc ), and that was just great . Super reliable, supportive, and helpful at every step of my journey. Highly recommended!

A jungle trecking with a Spanish-speaking guide - It's an amazing experience. The agency has a high level of efficiency and the guides are wonderful. They put a lot of food and it is a very authentic experience, while fun and respectful of the environment. I would repeat with them without thinking. A special hug to our guide Sab, Spanish speaking, English and of course Indonesian. A 10 for him and his entire team. Nice to have lived it!

Warm welcome and unforgettable jungle experience as a solo traveller - I did the trek as a solo traveler and everything was arranged down to the last detail — from the pick-up at a friends’ wedding to the drop-off at the airport. The communication was smooth and friendly, and I felt welcome and well cared for from the start.
The trekking itself was fantastic: a nice balance between adventure, nature and relaxation. The guides, Brema and Rozi, made it personal and sincere, and you notice that the whole team works with passion for the jungle and its visitors.
Highly recommended for those looking for a well organized but warm experience in Bukit Lawang. Thanks to the whole team — I’ll definitely be back! 😄

Unforgettable experience - It was a unique experience… seeing the animals in their natural environment is something that can’t really be put into words. I’d like to thank my guide Dani and his assistant, who were amazing: they explained so many things, supported us whenever we needed, and everything was organized down to the smallest detail. The food was delicious! I couldn’t have asked for a better experience! 🙏🏼

Adventurous trek, ethical guiding, well organised - The 2 day jungle trek was amazing. We were lucky to see several Orang Utans on both days. Special thanks to our guides Syaipul and Roji who made it such a fun, interesting and safe experience!
Also the food was delicious (vegetarian options available). Everything was very well organised and communication before, during and after the trek ran smoothly. I also booked transport from/to airport with the company which was convenient and proved reliable.
I would totally recommend doing the trek with Sumatra Orang Utan Trekking. Thank you to the whole team for making this a great experience!

Incredible experience - Absolutely incredible experience! Seeing orangutans in their natural habitat was truly unforgettable, and the entire trek was very well organized. Our guides were knowledgeable, funny, and passionate about nature—they made us feel safe at all times and taught us so much about the jungle and wildlife.
The trekking route was beautiful with stunning scenery, and we spotted several orangutans up close as well as other animals. The team really cared about ethical tourism and protecting the rainforest.
The food was delicious, the camping spot was comfortable, and the atmosphere in the group was amazing. It was the perfect mix of adventure, learning, and connection to nature.
I highly recommend this trek to anyone visiting Sumatra—it was one of the best experiences of my life! Special thanks to Ibnu and Rizky.

Amazing 2-day Jungle Trekking 🦧 - We really enjoyed our 2 day jungle trek with Sumatra Orangutan Trekking. Our guides Roji and Syaipul were extremely knowledgeable about the jungle and did everything they could to make it an amazing experience. They were kind, funny and great company throughout the trip.
We were lucky to see several orangutans, as well as other monkeys like the Thomas leaf monkey and long-tailed macaque. We also spotted snakes, a peacock, and even a beautiful hornbill bird.
The food was excellent. We had delicious fruit and lunch breaks on both days and a lovely dinner after the first day.
We highly recommend booking a jungle trek with this organization. The communication via WhatsApp (before, during and after the trek) was very quick and helpful. We could ask anything and they were always responsive.
We also arranged our transfers with them from Medan Airport to Bukit Lawang, and later from Bukit Lawang to Lake Toba, and everything was perfectly organized.

As a solo female I was taken care of from start to finish.This company is very trustworthy.Dedeks very supportive team had my ba - Look no further if you are looking for an ethical, well organised and caring company.Especially if you are a solo female wanting to do this.
Dedeks team were supportive and trustworthy from start to finish.
From the arrival at the airport to checking in very late at night in Bukit Lawang.A very welcoming committee that stays up late to check you into your room and offers a cold Bintang.
The trek is extremely ethical.
Wonderful guides Ipnu and Aja.
The sweetest gentleman.
We saw 5 orangutans and lots of Thomas Leaf monkeys.
The trek had more steeper inclines and declines than I expected for my age of 54 of which I'm used to doing rough rainforest treks.
A storm came so I had to lag behind my crew and take more precautions with my steps.
Aja stayed with me the whole time during the storm and was keen to hold my hand and gave me wonderful support ❤️
The camp was wonderful Putra
cooked an amazing 5 star banquet with so much variety with limited resources which was absolutely delicious.
What wonderful memories I have had by choosing "Sumatra Orangutan Trekking"
I really appreciate how I was treated and I will never forget it.

Loved it a lot! - I can wholehearted recommend this jungle trek! My animal sightings were 100% fulfilled. I was lucky enough to see several orangutans, including an alpha male, white and black gibbons, Thomas leaf monkeys, hornbills and even an owl in the evening. The guides are super friendly, knowledgeable and always kept an eye on the animals and the group.
Dedek (manager) always responded very quickly, was helpful and assisted with many organisational matters, even outside of the trek.
On the day of my arrival, the guys picked me up on their scooters, gave me instructions and then took me to the hotel.
Even as a woman travelling alone, I never felt uncomfortable at any point. I booked the tour for 2 days/1 night. Of course, you have to lower your European standards, but if you're not too fussy, you should spend a night in the jungle to experience the atmosphere. The camp even has a real toilet and you can bathe in the river. There were three of us in my group and two guides, Syaipul and Iril. The food was also delicious! In the evenings, we sat together and played some games. Another highlight on the last day was the jungle taxi, which takes you back to the office via the river. I took the people here straight into my heart, had a lot of fun and would definitely book the tour here again, but for longer next time! I will never forget the team and my days in Bukit!

Amazing 2 Day Jungle Trek - GO TREKKING WITH THESE GUYS - From our initial contact to our final goodbye, Dedek and his team were amazing in all aspects. Dedek was super responsive and highly organised, arranging our airport transport to Bukit Lawang, our accommodation in Bukit Lawang, our 2 Day Jungle Trek, then our onward transport to Berastagi. We met the guide team on our arrival in Bukit Lawang when all aspects of the 2 Day Jungle Trek were explained. We were collected the following morning and taken by moped through the streets of Bukit Lawang (so much fun!!) to the SOT offices where we began our trek with our guides Ibnu and Mehmet. These guys are great guides. They told us so much about the jungle and it's animals, pointed out more wildlife than we expected to see, taught us a few songs to sing along the way and we even had a little magic show from Mehmet around the camp fire at the end of day 1. The food provided was fantastic, the camp location was really lovely by the river and the tube ride back into town at the end of the trek was a great way to return to our lodge. This 2 day trek was something we will all remember forever. We're hoping to return for a longer trek, sometime in the near future.
