A rendez-vous with nature - It was so easy to book this Humboldt Penguin Tour with Ecoturismo agency. You can contact them by phone and they send you all the necessary info by whatsapp/email. Very reactive and useful. Did not have to pay in avdance to book the tour, which was awsome since I arrived at La Serena late at night the day before the tour and did not want to waste time. Spent a great day with Felipe Torres, our Ecoturismo guide for the day, at Choros and Damas Island, with very useful and interesting informations shared the whole day long. Since it's winter time (nesting and migration period), the fauna is seen in fewer numbers. But fortunately we had the opportunity to see a variety of fauna: sea lions, pelican, penguins, bottlenose dolphins, piqueros etc. Very nice experience I do recommend. Felipe was really nice to share with some photos he took with his Iphone:-)

Boat trip - Long day but well worth it. Our host (can’t remember his name) was excellent. Very impressive highway to get there. We saw lots of different birds, seals, a few dolphins, penguins. The boat ride was a bit rough. But on the island the sun came out. Lovely lunch included. On way back we saw native foxes and a few guanacos.

Whales - I highly recommend stopping at La Serena because from here various excursions depart. Today I attended the whale watching and we were very lucky to see about 20 of them. Along the way we also saw other animals such as Guanacho, foxes and donkeys. You can also take a hike to Damas Island to see The Penguins, but it is not always available.

The trip itself was... - The trip itself was great. The info provided by Viator was terrible! Every correspondence said an 8 AM pickup at "Enjoy Coquimbo" hotel. We ended up relocating to a further away residence and I attempted to change pickup location closer to where we had moved. The response from the operator said they had a closer pickup point, but that the pickup time was now 7:20 AM! I then said I'd like to go back to the initial pickup point at 8 AM but was now told that point was not on their approved list! I communicated with Viator numerous times and they were never able to contact the operator in the 24 hours before the pickup to clarify the issue. We received numerous reminders that the pickup time was 8 AM and at the initial point that we were now told was not a pickup point. Then the rest of our group received a call the night before that their pickup point (Enjoy Coquimbo) was now at 6:30 AM instead of 8 AM! We were going to change and go back to that original point at the 8 AM time that Viator kept sending us as a final notice. If we had done so, we would have been 1.5 hours late!!! We ended up getting picked up at the revised pickup point at 7:20, but it was not worth getting up at 5 AM and stressing about exactly where and when we would get picked up. The operation told us it's always been an earlier pickup, but nobody from Viator seemed to know that. The operator, Barbara, did a fantastic job! Viator did not! You can confirm that we have taken numerous trips in South America using your firm, and we have enjoyed them. In this case we are extremely disappointed your info was incorrect and caused my family (including me 88 year old mother in law) a lot of unnecessary stress about whether anyone would be picking us up.
