A Day of Island Hopping: Discovering Praslin and La Digue’s Hidden Charms

In search of a new adventure, I embarked on a day trip from Mahe to the enchanting islands of Praslin and La Digue. Join me as I recount the serene boat rides, the allure of pristine beaches, and the joy of exploring by e-bike.

Setting Sail to Praslin

As the first light of dawn kissed the horizon, I found myself aboard a boat, gently swaying with the rhythm of the ocean waves. The anticipation of the journey ahead filled the air with a palpable excitement. Our destination was Praslin, a gem nestled in the heart of the Seychelles. The boat ride, lasting about an hour, was a serene experience, the kind that allows one to reflect on the beauty of the world and the adventures that await.

Upon arrival, the island greeted us with its lush greenery and the inviting aroma of local food stands. Having missed breakfast in the early morning rush, I indulged in a quick snack, savoring the flavors that were as vibrant as the island itself. A short van ride brought us to the Vallee de Mai Nature Reserve, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Here, the legendary coco de mer, with its intriguing shape and history, stood as a testament to nature’s wonders. Our guide shared tales of the endemic black parrot, weaving a narrative that transported us to a time when the world was untouched and wild.

The Allure of Anse Lazio

Our journey continued to Anse Lazio, a beach that seemed to have leaped straight out of a postcard. The sands were a dazzling white, contrasting beautifully with the azure waters that lapped gently at the shore. It was a place where time seemed to stand still, allowing one to bask in the simple joys of life. I took a moment to capture the scene, both in photographs and in memory, knowing that such beauty is a rare gift.

The gentle current invited us to swim, and as I waded into the water, I was greeted by the sight of colorful fish darting around my feet. It was a reminder of the vibrant life that thrives beneath the ocean’s surface, a world that is both mysterious and enchanting. After a refreshing swim, I found a small restaurant where I could rinse off and change, a simple luxury that added to the day’s comfort.

Cycling Through La Digue

The next leg of our adventure took us to La Digue, a short boat ride away. Here, we embraced the island’s charm by renting e-bikes, a delightful way to explore at our own pace. The ride to Anse Source d’Argent was a leisurely one, the path lined with towering coconut palms and the occasional glimpse of the sea.

Anse Source d’Argent, famed for its photogenic beauty, did not disappoint. Though the beach was bustling with fellow travelers, its allure was undeniable. I wandered along the shore, discovering hidden inlets and secluded sections of beach, each offering a unique perspective of this paradise. The camera clicked away, capturing moments that words could scarcely describe.

As the day drew to a close, we returned our bikes and gathered with our group at the dock. There was time for a final drink at a local restaurant, a chance to savor the island’s flavors one last time. The boat ride back to Mahe was a quiet one, the day’s adventures leaving us pleasantly weary. As the sun dipped below the horizon, I reflected on the memories made, knowing that this day trip was a chapter in my travelogue that I would cherish forever.
