A Journey to Espiritu Santo Island

The anticipation was palpable as I embarked on a journey to Espiritu Santo Island, a place that had long been on my bucket list. As a marine biologist, the allure of the Sea of Cortes, with its rich biodiversity and stunning landscapes, was irresistible. The third week of June greeted us with warm weather, perfect for capturing the beauty of the turquoise waters in photographs. Our guides, Ángel and Manolo, were seasoned experts, their knowledge of the area evident in every detail they shared.

The tour was well-organized, and the itinerary was flexible, accommodating the natural rhythms of the sea lions’ mating season. Instead of heading to the northern tip of the island, we spent more time on a secluded beach, a decision that was unanimously welcomed by all attendees. The six-hour tour flew by, each moment filled with awe and wonder as we explored the pristine environment.

We were fortunate to encounter dolphins, blue-footed boobies, and a variety of marine species, including parrotfish and moray eels. Each encounter was a reminder of the incredible diversity that the ocean holds, a testament to the importance of preserving these natural habitats.

No adventure is complete without indulging in the local cuisine, and this tour did not disappoint. The lunch provided was a delightful spread of shrimp and fish ceviche, perfect for making tostadas. For those who preferred something different, there was the option to create your own sandwich with quality ingredients. Fresh fruit, bottled water, and soft drinks were also available, ensuring that we were well-nourished throughout the day.

The attention to detail extended beyond the food, with the guides selecting locations that were not overcrowded, allowing us to enjoy the tranquility of the surroundings.
