We walked away feeling we now know everything about making chocolate. - Our guide Bryan was very knowledgeable and engaging. We got to taste chocolate at every stage of production. We got to taste all the fruits grown on the property and even coffee also. Don’t miss this place! We loved that it had a local feel to it.

Tasting tour - Fun , informative- a great way to spend a couple of hours.. especially after some of the more full on La Fortuna activities!
We tasted lots of tropical fruit ( including some frozen and covered in chocolate, like an icecream, yum) saw all stages of the coffee and chocolate production, a guided tour around the family plantation and ending up with drinking hot chocolate and coffee that we’d helped to prepare from the beans. There were also delicious homemade chocolate truffles and a taste of grandads coconut rum made from the sugar cane, (which we’d also sampled in its raw form) Our guide was the son of the farm owner and he was excellent- fun and informative.
My teenage boys really enjoyed this as did we- highly recommended.

Chocolate tour with Bryan - This tour was amazing!! Our guide Bryan was the best and very funny, he told us lots of interesting background information about cacao, its history and the process of producing chocolate. We tried different fruits and in the end is a nice coffee and cacao tasting. Can highly recommend!!

Book it! - Book it! Traveling with three kids (10, 6, and 3), we looked for a tour that would be more appropriate for children. We visited Doka ten years ago without kids and enjoyed the experience, but thought the kids would have lost interest in that type of explanation.
The Don Oliva tour was perfect for this trip. Our guide, Dan, spoke very clear english (was patient when we practiced our Spanish) and was incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about the family farm. He did a great job keeping the kids engaged and was very playful, especially with our three year old. The length was perfect for younger kids - long enough to learn, but short enough to hold their attention. The paths are flat and easy to navigate (people had narrow strollers and did fine). The tour also provided fruits and snacks along the way, which was fantastic. The tour ends at a covered picnic type place to sit and enjoy chocolate, cookies, and coffee. Outdoor but clean bathrooms and hand washing stations are available.
The farm does not provide transportation, but it was an easy shuttle/taxi to a few minutes past the main Fortuna square.
Thanks for sharing your farm with us!!

Fantastic even in the rain! - This was one of the highlights of our 4-day stay in Costa Rica. The tour was fantastic - engaging, hands-on for the kids, informative but not overwhelming. Fresh fruit snacks were delicious and abundant, and the guide was attentive, caring, knowledgeable, and super fun. We loved it, even in the pouring rain, and recommend it to anyone who loves chocolate or just to anyone who enjoys nature.

Great tour, great price, great people - Great coffe, fruit, chocolate tour experience. Daniel was a fantastic and personable guide who takes you thru the rich history. It was great meeting all the staff as well as Mr. Otto. When visiting LF, Don Olivo was the cheapest price for a family tour and located 11 mins outside of LF.
I would recommend this tour as it was a nice rest/lite day activity. Pura Vita.

A great slice of local history and knowledge of the land and plants - This tour was excellent - all on a family run farm so it had real history and the guide knew everything about the chocolate and all the other plants on the farm too. The two hours was very interesting and we got lots of examples of fruit and chocolate and coffee. I would highly recommend as it wasn’t commercial but yet really well organised !
