Dawn’s Early Light

As a former professional surfer, I’ve always had a deep connection with the ocean, and the idea of experiencing a sunrise from a kayak in Huatulco was too tempting to resist. My partner and I found ourselves in La Crucecita, ready to embark on the Sunrise Kayak Adventure. Our guide, Ferguson—affectionately known as Fergie—picked us up at the crack of dawn, 5:10 AM to be precise. With a quick stop for some much-needed coffee, we were off to the beach, kayaks in tow.

The morning air was crisp, and the anticipation was palpable as we joined a lively group of fellow kayakers. It just so happened that our tour coincided with the annual beach cleanup kayak competition, adding an unexpected layer of excitement to the day. As we paddled out into the calm waters, the first hints of sunlight began to dance on the horizon, promising a spectacular show.

Nature’s Spectacle

Once on the water, the magic truly began. The ocean was alive with activity, and we were fortunate enough to witness the incredible chimney phenomenon—a natural spectacle where water spouts up like a geyser. But that was just the beginning. As we glided along, we spotted mating turtles, a hermit crab scuttling across the sand, and vibrant tropical fish darting beneath our kayaks. Overhead, Frigatebirds soared gracefully, adding to the sense of wonder.

And then, the moment we had all been waiting for—the sunrise. It was nothing short of breathtaking. The sky transformed into a canvas of oranges, pinks, and purples, reflecting off the Pacific Ocean in a dazzling display. It was a reminder of why I love the ocean so much, and why I feel compelled to share these experiences with you, my fellow adventurers.

A Perfect Morning

The kayak portion of the tour lasted about 2.5 hours, and every moment was filled with awe and discovery. I had come prepared with my trusty waterproof phone case, capturing the stunning views without a worry. Fergie, with his easygoing nature and wealth of knowledge, made the experience both relaxing and exhilarating.

After our time on the water, we made a stop at a secluded beach for a light breakfast and some snorkeling. I had brought my own snorkel, but Fergie provided goggles for those who needed them. The underwater world was just as vibrant as the one above, with colorful fish and coral creating a mesmerizing scene.
