A truly beautiful experience and host - Cannot recommend this little workshop enough! A welcoming, warm environment hosted by the delightful Kana. Kana and her husband spoke impeccable English and my family enjoyed an insight into the genuine making of sushi along with the Japanese culture. An all round feel good experience for us in our first few hours of arriving in Kyoto. Thank you

Joyful and practical Sushi making - Kana explained everything clearly and shared great local knowledge and experience. The interior space is stunning, the design elements are a joy to sit and learn from Kana. The sushi making was very practical, and I genuinely feel confident making sushi now back in Australia. Highly recommended and I would happily attend again.

Lovely experience learning to make sushi - My son and I had a wonderful time learning how to make sushi. Kana was so helpful and knowledgeable. And both Kana and her husband spent time answering all of our questions and gave recommendations in the area. They sourced amazing ingredients and sent us with a goodie bag so we can make sushi when we return home. I highly recommend atelier sushi to anyone in the area who is interested in learning how to make sushi.

Excellent experience that we would recommend! - Making the sushi with Kana and her husband Karim was fun and easy. We were taught how to make nigiri and maki sushi and, at the same time, we had great conversations about Japan and Kyoto. The sushi was fresh and very tasty. Our son has allergies, which Kana easily accommodated. Overall it was a great experience and our family really enjoyed it. I would highly recommend this, and would like to come back again someday.

Fun, fresh and delicious! - Our family (ages 17-59) enjoyed a wonderful small group workshop learning how to hand make delicious fresh sushi. The teacher was fun and informative. The classroom was beautiful and clean. We made a variety of sushi including tuna, salmon, egg, avocado and crab. I can’t believe the generous portions. It was truly a highlight of our vacation in Japan.

Our best day in Japan - Such a wonderful class, beautiful location and very very good sushi (if I may compliment the chef…me!) Kana is beautiful soul and so much fun to talk to, and her instruction was perfect. Then we enjoyed a very tasty meal. I feel like we were visiting old friends! Highly recommend!

Ichiban! - Our family of four had a lovely time learning how to make sushi with Kana at Atelier Sushi. After learning how the rice was made we started off making five pieces each of nigiri sushi (getting better progressively with each piece), and finished by learning how to make a sushi roll. The end product is reflected in the photo below, just before it was devoured. We learned a skill that we intend to replicate at home, and were gifted rolling mats and instructions on how to get the rice properly prepared. The instruction we received was very specific and Kana’s manner was very encouraging and supportive. Our daughter who doesn’t even eat sushi ate blue fin and yellowtail and had a couple pieces of the salmon avocado roll she made. An A+ afternoon, and we even visited Mr. and Mrs. Kawasaki’s ceramics shop afterwards (a 5-minute walk away in the ceramics district) to buy some of the small dishes and sake decanters like we used so that we can remember our time long after we’ve left Japan. This was easily one of the highlights of our 10-day stay in Japan. Several hours later and still glowing from the experience.
