Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine - Fushimi Inari Taisha, affectionately called “Oinari-san,” is the head shrine of the approximately 30,000 Inari shrines across Japan. Its history dates back to before the capital’s relocation to the Heian period, with its founding said to be in 711. It is believed to bestow blessings for business prosperity and home safety, attracting worshippers year-round.
The most remarkable feature of Fushimi Inari Taisha is the “Senbon Torii.” The sight of the rows of vermilion-lacquered torii gates is truly awe-inspiring! This is attributed to the tradition of offering torii gates as a token of gratitude for wishes that “may” be granted or “have been granted.” Considering its 1,300-year history, this practice seems relatively recent.
