Begin by selecting your preferred hammer from a variety of options, place the pewter cup on the anvil, and strike it while rotating to create intricate patterns. You can choose to use a single hammer or combine multiple ones. The cup is designed to fit comfortably in the hand, and its appearance can vary greatly depending on the hammer type and striking technique, allowing you to create a pewter sake cup that is truly unique. Additionally, you can personalize it by stamping letters, numbers, initials, or a date on the base.
Then, use a file to adjust the height and bevel the rim at an angle, ensuring a pleasant drinking experience. For safety, the final polishing is performed by a craftsman using a rotary machine.
The finished cup measures approximately 64 mm in diameter, 53 mm in height, and holds about 90 ml (115 ml when filled to the rim).
The completed cup is versatile and can be enjoyed not only for sake but also for whiskey, chilled green tea, and various other occasions.

Pewter has been integral to Japanese culture since the 8th century, initially utilized by nobility and temples. By the 17th century, it became popular among the general populace, particularly for sake and tea utensils. Even today, many believe that sake tastes smoother when sipped from a pewter cup. By creating your own, you engage directly with this rich tradition.
Workshops are limited to 4 participants, ensuring a calm and intimate setting. Solo travelers, couples, and small groups are all invited. No prior experience is necessary; clear instructions ensure that beginners can enjoy the process.
Participants will also have the opportunity to explore the pewter workshop—usually not open to the public—and develop a deeper appreciation for the craft. Each cup will be presented in a paulownia wood box, making it a meaningful keepsake or gift. Join us to create a lasting memory with your handcrafted pewter sake cup.
