忍道 - The way of perseverance and endurance - 忍道 – The way of perseverance and endurance. The strength to remain steadfast and resilience under the chaotic world. What was once specialists in intelligence gathering and various field of other arts, has now become a fun experience for all, including myself who chanced upon this 2-hour courses while searching for things to do in Kyoto. There are practical lessons taught on breathing techniques, hand seal gesture, ninja walking in the dark, demonstration on some weapons used by ninja, and of course, hands on experience as well. To master them well, one must have balance and harmony with movement and stillness. Like the musical instrument, string that are too tight will break, and too slack cannot produce any sound. Everything has a point where it is just right, music play and things are in harmony. In martial arts, it is the centre of gravity. So is the way of ninja walking, with the sake bottle on the head, keeping your harmony as you walk. And is the same as the string weapon, finding the right way to spin. These experiences are valuable which you can take away and applied in your life, to remain calm and steadfast in your task at hand and be immovable as a mountain even when faced with danger. Recommended for anyone having an interest in ninjutsu, and finding things to do in Kyoto.

An excellent experience delivered in an atmosphere of respect and tradition - My daughter and I very much enjoyed our exposure training class with Tomoe our instructor. We had a mixed cultural and hands on experience from philosophy to meditation to technique and it was an excellent introduction to the way of the ninja and their contribution to Japanese society. I highly recommended this immersive experience delivered in an atmosphere of respect and tradition. Stephen

Great family fun - Teens were skeptical about this but ended up being fun. Our teacher was fantastic - super knowledgeable and helpful. Got to get into action and try several of the weapons. Where else can you go to throw shurikens (ninja stars).

Best time ever - memorable, unique, educational - Such an incredibly special and unique experience! Thank you to Sensei Sho and Yuri for a fantastic 2-hr Ninja Hands-On Lesson. For those who have ever been interested in the art, history or legend of the Ninja, this is an ideal experience because it’s run by a Dojo whose Grandmaster was born in Iga and trained in the true Ninja arts of the Iga school. That means the lessons are rooted more with a little bit of history and gives participants a taster of what you might learn in a Ninjutsu class - from spells, walking, and weaponry. What I really liked was that it wasn’t gimmicky or cheesy, and I didn’t feel awkward putting on the Ninja clothing - I felt like I was going to class and putting on my uniform. To be fair, even if you’ve not been very aware or interested Ninja legends and history before, it’s still a fun and interactive way learning about the different weapons used in the past and learning about one part of Japan’s history. Sensei Sho - as an experienced tour guide - was great at telling the story around each segment of the lesson. He was patient, funny, and we appreciated his gift of explaining things in a way we could understand, so my husband and I felt like we really absorbed everything he had to say. We also loved the weapons demonstration with him! A lot were harder than it looked but all were really fascinating… makes me wish we had a dojo here. Yuri took amazing photographs for us to capture some of the best moments (see photos attached). The owner Izo was also incredibly helpful and attentive. Thanks again for such a wonderful experience. I highly recommend this experience.
