Would not recommend when you’re really interested about Japanese cuisine - Overall, I was disappointed. The ramen preparation consisted of kneading flour with water, salt, and baking powder, and then pressing the dough through a pasta machine. The ingredients (for example, marinated pork) were already prepared—our task was simply to cut them. We didn’t learn how to make the broth; instead, we were asked to choose one, which was then poured over our “homemade” noodles along with pre-prepared toppings. When I asked how the broth is made—which is an essential part of ramen—the guide replied that it is the secret of each restaurant. But that’s exactly why I booked a cooking class: to learn how to make ramen. As for the gyoza, there’s even less to say: the filling ingredients were already mixed in a bowl, and our task was simply to stir them and shape the gyoza. (The dough was also readymade). The instructor was friendly and created a good atmosphere, but she either couldn’t or wouldn’t answer questions about the preparation of the ingredients. If you’re looking for an experience (including two free alcoholic drinks), I can recommend it. Sure it was fun to knead and learn about the Gyoza folding technique. However, if you genuinely want to learn about Japanese cooking, I would clearly not recommend this class.

Dissapointing "beginners" class - In this cooking class you only learn to cut vegetables, make pasta, and fold dumplings. Everything else is being done for you. When we asked the instructor about this we were told that because it is a "beginners" cooking class we can't expect more. The recipes we got home after the class don't explain how to cook the dishes properly, and when we asked for a more in dept recipe for the ramen stock we were told to "look it up" ourselves. Everyone present at the cooking class ended up eating the same "pooled" food, so you didn't only eat what you yourself cooked. I was a bit worried about food safety and cleanliness of this. We were not allowed to cook our own gyoza or fried rice as they explained that we were too many booked for the class on this day - which I think is entirely their fault and not ours. Pictures were taken throughout the class, but if you didn't have an iphone they were not able to send you any pictures. We were told they would be available at a later time but none of us has seen anything to these pictures since, and it has been over a week. All in all the actual class lasted for about 1 hour, and afterwards we were eating for maybe 40 mins. We felt a bit rushed since they had another class coming in after us and spent time preparing for this. I'm giving 2 stars since the food tasted nice and we had free drinks. I would not recommend this class if you are looking for a fun activity for your Kyoto trip.

Don't waste your time and money - They have a 20 person maximum and we had 18 in our group. With 18 they told us there were too many people to go downstairs to do the fried rice and Gyoza parts. So we all basically just made some ramen dough and then had it shoved through a pasta cutter, boiled and put in a bowl of soup. They cooked the Gyoza and rice and what you end up with on this tour is what amounts to an overpriced lunch where you make some noodles. False advertising on what they are offering. If they can't deliver against larger bookings, they should not take the bookings. I would go out of my way to not recommend this cooking class.
