I recommend this tour. - We were not sure what to expect. But we thoroughly enjoyed our walk through Gion with our guide, Rin and our encounter with the Maiko, Fumiaya. She performed two traditional dances and then sat for a Q and A session. It wasn’t in the least contrived and she was upfront and honest with us (through an interpreter). Then we played a typical Japanese game that involves flipping a fan to hit a target. Fumiaya was very good at it and we could see the girl beneath the maiko make-up and costume as she engaged in the game. We felt privileged to have met her and to have had a glimpse of the geisha life.

Meet the Maiko, with Rin - We had a good time walking around the Gion district with Rin guiding us. He talked us through the differences between Maiko and Geiko, and more, until we got to meet the Maiko. The show was beautiful and the chance to speak with the Maiko was priceless! A core memory we'll bring with us home!

Excellent and unique experience - We attended a meiko performance and walking tour with Ai. Ai was a brilliant tour guide - very friendly, knowledgable, and engaging. The meiko performance was enjoyable, and we appreciated the unique opportunity to ask her questions at the end. She graciously shared about her life and what it’s like to train as a meiko. We would definitely recommend the tour and performance!

Great tour - Really great tour with expert guide Ai. She knew everything about the place and walked us through the history lane with recommendations for souvenir shops which otherwise we may not have known. She was very warm and responsive during the tour and helped in translation. She has very good command over English and excellent communication for the tour. Highly recommended to go with Ai

Beautiful and unique experience - This is a very unique experience which I highly recommend. Our guide Rin was informative and spoke excellent English. We loved the opportunity to meet the maiko Fumiyui and talk to her about her life training to be a Geiko. Rin translated seamlessly and we loved the dance performances and the very entertaining traditional game with fans at the end of the afternoon tea. A great experience all round

Nice! - Great experience in a small group! A walk is easy and through the historical Gion district. Maiko dances right in front of you and one can ask her a lot of questions. Rin (our guide) was very friendly and is also happy to tell you more about the culture and the city. Cheers!

October 23rd 2025 - I liked how this tour was l very personable because we were a small group! Our tour guide was very kind and shared a lot of interesting information. We got sweets and tea at the tea house. The Geiko Performance was beautiful and we got to play a traditional japanese game.

Superb Gion experience - Ai, our guide, was so helpful and accommodating. One of my friends was unable to do the walk and she found a cafe for her to wait. Ai's explanations were very indepth and interesting and her English was excellent. The Geisha experience was superb. Highly recommended in every aspect. Anita
