Beautiful, educational and cultural experience - I would highly recommend participating in this tea ceremony if traveling to Kyoto. They offer kimono rentals which I suggest as well. (FYI you will see hoards of tourists wearing kimonos in the Gion district so you won't be out of place.) The care and delicacy that is taken to ensure your kimono and hair fit perfectly and look beautiful is unmatched! Once dressed, you are given a bit of time to walk around and take pictures in the historic area. As for the tea ceremony, it's a very educational and beautiful experience. You will learn a bit about the history and cultural importance of the tea ceremony before watching the steps involved. Of course, you will get to participate and drink the tea as well, which was better tasting than any other matcha I'd tried in Japan. Of note, this is a quiet almost meditative experience. Thankfully my two young sons were on their absolute best behavior, but this might not be suitable for children who have a hard time sitting still or staying quiet.

The tea ceremony was... - The tea ceremony was delightful. The young lady explained what she was using and how she was using it. Maybe I missed it a little, but I wasn’t quite sure why certain things were done a certain way I would’ve liked a little bit more history. We did Matcha tea. It would’ve been nice if we could’ve purchased some Matcha tea before we left otherwise it was delightful.
