A Truly Unforgettable Cultural Experience - We had a private tour in Ukunda, and it was absolutely wonderful. Our guide, Samson, was outstanding and very personable. He not only showed us around Ukunda but also gave us a deep insight into local village life, explaining the different tribes living there and their historical backgrounds. Cooking ugali with the village mama was a unique experience, and being included in the welcoming dance was truly unforgettable. Samson, we sincerely thank you for this amazing tour! And thank you so much for all the pictures you took! We also want to thank Nehemia, our driver, who was professional, friendly, and kept us entertained throughout the journey. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to experience authentic culture.

Kenya authentic - Super trip! I particularly enjoyed the preparation of the Kenyan food and the visit to the "Born again Children's Home", which really deserves our support.

Great experience - Very good tour. It was nice to see some local people with a guide that lives here nearby himself. Everyone was very welcoming towards us. Prepare to have enough candy with you for the beautiful smiles of the children in the town and the schools.

Beware donation event - Very important. It's going to be a fundraiser. According to the travel provider, this is of course voluntary, as you do not have to make a donation. At the beginning on the way to the village a boy came and made us bracelets with the names (and wanted a donation) before the food preparation we each got a coconut (for a donation). The first village market with all goods (not only own products, but also commercial!!!) was prepared before us. There was also a basket of donations at the Gririami dance after the dance. We then went to the children's home (here we had also taken gifts), then we had to go to the office of the manager/founder who gave us the donation book (only us in his office). The travel provider then wrote to me afterwards that all donations are voluntary, which is of course true, but the pressure on the ground is very high and emotional. After 4.5 hours we were incl. drive to the hotel again in the hotel (so not 6h)! Too bad, would have liked to just get to know life in the bush, but I didn't expect such a fundraiser. By the way, the children in the village expect sweets, please bring enough. The 2 points were only for our guide Samsong being Mega, he had explained everything to us.

My experience was very different from previous reviews. - The owner of the company made some very special arrangements for me to join the tour from Mombasa, which was greatly appreciated! However, I have to be very honest and transparent about this tour in particular. I had such high hopes; as my tour guide was a very nice guy but halfway through the trip he didn’t really “guide” much. There were 2 other tour guides there and my tour guide just “piggybacked” off the other tour guide really. When I arrived, a man immediately asked me for my name and all my family members names. Please be careful as he decided to make bracelets with their names on it and then tried to sell 5 of them to me for 500 KSH each! Please do not expect a feast at lunchtime, bring snacks or eat prior to arrival! A very nice woman prepared and showed us how to cook lunch from scratch, and it was an amazing experience! Myself and 2 other guests literally ate about 2-3 bites before the other 2 tour guides (but not my tour guide) devoured the MOST of the meal! That was very disappointing and rude because they took away from us as guests as we paid for this experience and the guides can enjoy the local cuisine at any time. Also please bring your own water! The only beverage I was only offered during the whole 6-7 hours was local alcohol and I do not drink alcohol because I am a Muslim. Also, every stop I went to was a constant money pit! They looked to me as if I was a walking bank instead of treating me like an actual guest. I am all about supporting the local people, but I don’t like to be looked at like an ATM! Make sure you bring Kenyan shillings but please be careful as everywhere you go you are paying for something that is not included in the booking price! The biggest disappointment was I brought donations for the children’s school/home, I carried an entire suitcase that my associates at work and I collected for months to help the local children. Keep in mind I carried the supplies from USA, through Saudi Arabia, through Ethiopia to Kenya. When it was time to visit the children’s school, I took a tour of the school. I didn’t see not ONE child present! They took my entire bag of donations / supplies… just sat it on a bench, no one even said thank you! I was taken on a short tour, then to be sat down by the pastor to tell me stories of what the organization needs and who has donated the most money to him and his organization in the past. Then he and some man over the phone asked for me to take my credit card to go the nearest ATM to get money! I asked my driver to please take me back to my apartment in Mombasa. I am very sad I did not get to meet any of the children as they promised, I did not see where they went to school and oddly, I didn’t get to see one child’s face in that entire facility! I am so heartbroken about how the rest of the day played out. If I had have known I would be asked for more money at the children’s school /home, I would have given the supplies to the children in the Ukunda village instead and never gone to visit the school/home at all. I would REALLY think twice about booking with this company as my experience was completely different from the other reviews posted and very disappointing! Unfortunately, I cannot book with them again.
