Sekinchan is a charming town situated in Selangor, Malaysia, approximately 102 km north of Kuala Lumpur and 28 km from Kuala Selangor. Nestled in the heart of Selangor’s primary rice-producing region, the Sabak Bernam district, Sekinchan is a key contributor to Malaysia’s rice production.
In Chinese, Sekinchan translates to “village suitable for plantation,” highlighting its ideal conditions for cultivating rice, fruits, and oil palm trees. It boasts the highest rice yield per acre in Malaysia, with around 4,300 acres dedicated to paddy and fruit farming. Upon arrival in Sekinchan, you’ll be greeted by expansive green paddy fields. The town is also renowned as a fishing village.

It’s also an excellent place to find reasonably sized hermit crabs.

From the 1st to the 9th of the ninth month of the Lunar Calendar, worshipers celebrate the birthdays of the Nine Emperor Gods (Jiu Huang Ye or 九皇爷) for ten days, marking the most important religious event in Sekinchan.
Nan Tian Temple offers a perfect vantage point to admire the beauty of the paddy fields. Visitors can ascend to the second floor of a tower within the temple for a panoramic view of the Sekinchan paddy fields.
- Bukit Melawati - Bukit Melawati is a favored tourist destination. The hill provides a view of the Strait of Malacca and features a lighthouse along with the remnants of the Kota Melawati fort. This picturesque lighthouse sits atop Bukit Melawati in Kuala Selangor and is a great spot for photography. However, tourists are not permitted to enter the lighthouse.
