- Angkor Wat - The tour begins with a drive to the less crowded East Gate of Angkor Wat, offering a stunning view in the morning light. Later, you’ll also visit the renowned West Gate for a second, shorter visit to the world’s largest temple building.
- Prasat Kravan - Next, visit the small temple of Prasat Kravan, notable for its five aligned towers and large brick carvings, unlike the sandstone carvings found elsewhere in Angkor.
- Prasat Bat Chum - Bat Chum, a small temple with three towers on a shared platform, is significant for its inscriptions indicating early Buddhism in Angkor, predating the Buddhist King Jayavarman VII. It’s a unique spot, not often visited by tourists.
- Srah Srang - The picturesque terrace of Srah Srang features animal sculptures. Unlike Barays, Srahs are artificially deepened basins, likely used for ceremonies. Constructed in the 10th century by a Buddhist prime minister and rebuilt in the late 12th century by a Buddhist king.
- Banteay Kdei - Banteay Kdei, the smaller counterpart to the famous Ta Prohm, is a large complex with a labyrinthine layout. Rest assured, you won’t get lost.
After exploring Banteay Kdei, enjoy a lunch break at the nearby Srah Srang reservoir, where several excellent restaurants are available.
Alternatively, you can return to town for lunch, but this detour requires additional payment for the driver and extends the tour to over 9 to 10 hours.
- Ta Prohm Temple - Ta Prohm, the iconic jungle temple of Cambodia, is enveloped by massive strangler figs. It’s a vast temple complex, so take your time to explore.
- Ta Nei Temple - Hidden in the jungle and accessible only by gravel roads, Ta Nei is often missed by tourists. Its ruins offer an “Indiana Jones” experience and feature exquisite relief art.
- Ta Keo - Ta Keo, a former state temple, is an artificial mountain with a stepped pyramid. The stairs to the top platform, where five Prasats are located, are notably steep.
- Spean Thma - Stop for a photo at Spean Thma, a stone bridge from the late Angkor period, constructed using stones from earlier temples. The riverbed has since shifted east.
- Chau Say Tevoda - Chau Say Tevoda is a charming medium-sized temple with an impressive eastern processional route and numerous pediment carvings depicting mythological themes.
- Thommanon - Thommanon, the sister temple of Chau Say Tevoda, dates back to the Angkor Wat period. Its towers share the same style as Angkor Wat.
- Mangalartha - Mangalartha, a small temple on a steep, tiered platform from the 13th century, is the last stone temple built in Angkor. Rarely visited by tourists, it’s one of the five “Extras” on this itinerary.
- The Victory Gate - The Victory Gate, the second eastern gate of Angkor Thom, is one of the best-preserved city gates. Climb the wall for a breathtaking view of the southern giant face of the gate, beautifully framed by trees.
Begin your 3.5 km hike at Victory Gate, passing the seldom-visited East Gate and Prasat Chrung in the southeastern corner of Angkor Thom. The driver will meet you at Angkor Thom South Gate. The path is easy to follow as it runs along the city walls of Angkor Thom.
- Angkor Thom - Walking along the medieval city walls of Angkor Thom, you’ll encounter the secluded East Gate. With no road access, it’s a surprising highlight of Angkor Thom without the crowds. This unique experience is a rewarding addition to our extended “intense” Small Tour itinerary.
- Angkor Thom South Gate - Take your time at the iconic South Gate of Angkor Thom. The face tower and railings, formed by rows of giant statues depicting demons and gods, are a must-see in Angkor.
In line with our animal welfare policy, we do not offer elephant rides at Angkor Thom.
- Prasat Chrung - The four Prasat Chrung temples, located at the corners of Angkor Thom’s city walls, are rarely visited by tourists. On your 3.5 km hike, you’ll see the best-preserved southeastern Prasat Chrung, offering a peaceful experience. It’s one of our five special highlights on this intense tour.
- Angkor Wat - Late afternoon is ideal for photographing Angkor Wat’s towers reflected in the temple ponds and moats. You’ll have another half-hour at this famous temple, already explored in the morning.
Before entering the West Gate of Angkor Wat, consider a stationary balloon ride for a bird’s-eye view. Late afternoon is also perfect for photos here.
- Wat Thmey (Killing Fields) - Wat Thmey features a small memorial stupa for Khmer Rouge victims and photo boards with images of those who perished. The open grounds also include a large prayer hall.
- Siem Reap - Drop-off will be at your hotel or any preferred location in Siem Reap’s vibrant town center, known for its lively markets.
