Preah Vihear Temple is a historic Khmer temple constructed during the Khmer Empire era. It is perched atop a 525-meter (1,722 ft) cliff in the Dângrêk Mountains, located in Preah Vihear province, Cambodia.
Offering a panoramic view stretching for many kilometers across the plains, Prasat Preah Vihear boasts the most breathtaking location among all the temples erected during the six-century-long Khmer Empire. As a significant structure in the spiritual life of the empire, it was enhanced and altered by successive kings, showcasing elements of various architectural styles. Preah Vihear is distinctive among Khmer temples due to its construction along a lengthy north-south axis, as opposed to the traditional rectangular layout oriented towards the east. On 7 July 2008, Preah Vihear was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Following the visit to Preah Vihear Temple, the next destination will be the Koh Ker temple group, where numerous smaller temples surrounding the Koh Ker Group can also be explored.
