Phnom Kulen National Park - Morning: At 8:00 AM, guests will be picked up from their hotel to explore Phnom Kulen National Park, including the Bat Cave, Elephant statues, reclining Buddha, and the River of 1000 Lingas. Phnom Kulen is a renowned sacred mountain in Siem Reap, Cambodia, home to numerous Hindu sanctuaries and a few modern Buddhist temples. Thousands of locals reside here, including some original hill tribes. It was a stronghold for the Khmer Rouge army until 1992. Many tourists are drawn to the impressive Buddha Statue atop the summit rock. Holy monks and priests also reside here, practicing their faith. Adventure enthusiasts enjoy walking tours through the jungle to appreciate the stunning mountain scenery and historical sites.
Afternoon: Visit and swim in the waterfalls, then return to the hotel in Siem Reap city.
Please note: The journey to the Bat Cave and Elephant Sanctuary is via motorcycle, with a rental cost of $15 per motorcycle.
- Banteay Srei - During the journey to Siem Reap, several optional excursions are available, including the enchanting Banteay Srei temple, the informative Cambodian Landmine Museum, and the serene Butterfly Garden. Beyond Phnom Kulen and the Sacred River of a Thousand Lingas, there are more sites to explore.
For those interested in visiting more temples, Prasat Pre Rup and Banteay Samre can be added to the itinerary. Admission to these sites is covered by the Angkor pass, available as one-day or three-day tickets. Banteay Srei, carved from delicate pink sandstone, is considered the jewel of Khmer art and is a must-see.
- Beng Mealea - Beng Mealea is a captivating temple located approximately 66 kilometers east of Angkor Wat in Cambodia. Constructed in the early 12th century during King Suryavarman II’s reign, this expansive temple complex is a stunning example of classical Khmer architecture. It remains largely overgrown and in a state of natural decay, enhancing its mystical allure. Unlike the more restored Angkor Wat, Beng Mealea is often less crowded, allowing visitors to leisurely explore its crumbling walls, intricate carvings, and lush jungle surroundings. The temple’s design includes a series of galleries, courtyards, and towers, all intertwined with trees and vines, creating a breathtaking fusion of man-made and natural beauty. Beng Mealea offers a glimpse into the grandeur of the Khmer Empire while inviting adventurers to discover its hidden treasures amidst the ruins.
