I couldn't make a better choice! - I took this cooking class on April 2nd, 2026, at the 12:30 time slot in lieu of joining my friends on a tour of the wonderful Bayon Temple. I was reluctant to go out in the extreme heat, especially since I had already visited Bayon a few years ago.I honestly think it was a great decision, as this cooking class turned out to be a real treasure. I do all the cooking at home and am somewhat proficient in various national cuisines, but I had never tried cooking Khmer dishes before, so I was quite curious.I was picked up at my hotel promptly on time and driven about 15 minutes away to a charming local setting just a block or two from the river. There were only two of us curious tourists in the session. We started with a tour of the family’s garden, where they grow all the ingredients (and much more) used in the dishes we would later prepare. This introduction was fascinating and very informative, especially for someone who loves cooking. I learned a thing or two about ingredients I’ve been using for years without knowing their full potential or better uses. For example, lemongrass: In the US, it is only sold as grown stalks, but our friendly guide — a member of the family (I apologize, I forgot his name) — explained in excellent English how the green leafy parts are also used and how the plant is harvested. We were then taken to a large, covered kitchen hall with multiple sinks, prep tables, and everything needed for the class. There we met the lovely Chef Sorya Dull. We were given an extensive menu and asked to choose four courses to learn and enjoy at the end. I picked shrimp tom yum soup, fresh spring rolls, crispy fried rolls, and banana tapioca dessert. In my opinion, while you can learn almost any recipe and technique through YouTube and other media, there’s nothing like a hands-on experience under the guidance of a skilled chef with terrific English. Sorya is funny, engaging, attentive, and very sincere. She carefully watches your work and gently prevents mistakes that are common when cooking an unfamiliar cuisine. I truly believe she is the best instructor I’ve had in any cooking class across different countries. Additionally, while you’re working on your dishes from scratch, she takes beautiful natural photos of you. Sorya is a fantastic photographer in addition to being an excellent cook and teacher. She knows exactly when to capture the moment, so the photos look completely natural and never staged. I highly recommend this class and Chef Sorya Dull!

Team King Kong!!! - Great value for money. I came with my 2 friends - keep in mind we are all quite young so we can be a bit of a handful. The staff were wonderful and the menu was extensive so lots of choice on what to cook. They were also super accommodating to my friend’s allergies which was really helpful. King Kong was our teacher and needless to say he was an absolute gem! Super nice super attentive and willing to answer any and all questions. Also should probably include that the food was amazing - would definitely recommend cooking the Tom Yum Soup. 10/10 experience and definitely one of the best cooking classes I’ve done in south east Asia!
