Wat Thmey (Killing Fields) - Next, visit Wat Thmei, one of the killing field memorials, featuring a small memorial stupa containing the skulls and bones of victims from the Khmer Rouge regime during 1975 – 1979.
Psar Chaa - Old Market - Then, visit The Old Market, the oldest Khmer market in Siem Reap. Explore vendors selling souvenirs such as clothes, jewelry, and more.
Wat Preah Prom Rath - Afterwards, transfer to one of the most beautiful pagodas in town, showcasing French colonial architecture and a large garden filled with statues. Bring candles and incense sticks to the pagoda and participate in a private good luck blessing ceremony, performed by local monks residing at the temple.
Angkor Highlights
Angkor Thom - At 8:00 am, you will be picked up from your hotel for the day’s tour. The first visit is the South Gate with its huge statues depicting the churning of the ocean of milk, and see the ancient capital of Angkor Thom built in the late 12th century. Then, proceed to Bayon temple, unique for its 54 towers decorated with over 200 smiling faces of Avolokitesvara. Baphuon resembles an artificial mountain that recently reopened after years of restoration.
Following this, visit the Royal Enclosure, the Elephants Terrace, and the Terrace of the Leper King.
Ta Prohm - Continue to the popular temple of Ta Prohm, the modern name of the temple at Angkor, built in the late 12th to early 13th centuries. It is also famous for being the location where the Tomb Raider movie was filmed.
Angkor Wat - After lunch on your own, continue to the magnificent Angkor Wat Temple, Angkor park’s most revered temple and the largest religious monument in the world. Inside the temple, the walls are adorned with stone carvings and bas‐reliefs that are absolutely breathtaking. Your guide will explain the stories from the exquisite details and provide ample time to explore the inner and outer grounds of the temple.
Enjoy a buffet dinner at a local restaurant with an Apsara Dance Show before returning to the hotel.
Siem Reap to Phnom Penh
Siem Reap International Airport - Today, transfer to the bus station or airport for departure to Phnom Penh City. The bus journey takes approximately 6 hours, while the flight takes 1 hour.
Phnom Penh International Airport - Upon arrival in Phnom Penh city, a guide will transfer you to your hotel for check-in.
Central Market - In the afternoon, start your tour by visiting the Central Market, built in 1937 during the French colonial period. It offers gold and silver jewelry, electronic equipment, clothing, fake watches and bags, suitcases, dried and fresh food, and many souvenirs.
Wat Langka - Next, visit Wat Lanka, one of the oldest pagodas in Phnom Penh. It was established as a sanctuary for the Holy Writings and a meeting place for Cambodian and Sri Lankan monks.
Independence Monument - Then, see the Independence Monument, modeled on the central tower of Angkor Wat. Built in 1958, it commemorates the country’s independence from France in 1953 and serves as a memorial to Cambodia’s war dead. Wreaths are laid here on national holidays.
Aeon Mall - The last stop is the 68,000-square-meter Aeon Mall, which houses brand stores such as Sheridan, Mango, Levi’s, and Adidas. There is an extensive food court on the top floor, along with a modern entertainment complex, including a cinema, karaoke lounge, bowling, arcades, and even ice skating. Enjoy dinner before returning to your hotel.
Phnom Penh City Highlights
Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum - Embark on a discovery tour of Phnom Penh. At 8:00 am, you will be met by your driver and guide. Gain insight into Cambodia’s recent dark history at the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum – a former school converted into a detention center during the Khmer Rouge.
Choeung Ek Genocidal Center - Equally harrowing are the Killing Fields of Choeung Ek. These visits are challenging but important for understanding the country’s history.
Russian Market - The rest of the day is much lighter, with a visit to the Russian Market, the largest in Cambodia, where everything is sold from carvings to jewelry, clothes, and souvenirs. Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant featuring Khmer delicacies.
Wat Phnom - In the afternoon, visit Wat Phnom, a beautiful hilltop temple with manicured gardens.
Royal Palace - Followed by the Royal Palace and Silver Pagoda, named for the 5,000 silver tiles that cover the pagoda’s floor, known for its collection of gold, silver, crystal, and bronze Buddha statues.
Mekong River - The day concludes with a sunset cruise on the Mekong River before returning to your hotel.
